When I applied for a scholarship for Netroots Nation '11, I made my Deafness an central issue and said I wanted to dedicate my time to getting Deaf people united with the Democratic party.
I spent all day today thinking about my ideas and thoughts on how to make this happen. I've been wanting to launch a project for years and I'm going to make this happen after Minneapolis.
Before I go in details I'd like to share with you all the website I'm currently designing. I hope to raise enough money this summer to buy my own domain which would be www.deafdemocrats.com (It's available! I checked) but for now I'm using weebly to host. Fret not, before I launch the project, I will have a solid domain :)
Deaf Democrats of America
My vision would include the following:
1) Enter an agreement with campaigns to help them find ASL interpreters for their rallies, fundraisers, town halls and debates.
2) Help arrange fundraisers for campaigns inviting the Deaf community in their area.
3. Advertise for campaigns on events and such to the Deaf in their area.
4. Train/educate campaigns on issues that the Deaf voters care about or are facing.
5. Help campaigns arrange to get a Video Phone of their own so Deaf people can come in and volunteer by phone banking other Deaf voters.
Please feel free to look around the website, give me feedback, help me find donations for the website and help me network with the right people in Minneapolis!
Also any ideas on how to build a database would greatly be appreciated.
