It occurs to me that, in some of these podcasts, I may come across as hostile to liberals. That's not my intent, but I can't deny that I criticize people who are left-of-center. It's highly unlikely that right-of-center people can ever be persuaded to change, but folks on the other side are another story. I'll put it this way: liberals/progressives are like my annoying roommate who liked to play the didgeridoo, while conservatives are like the psychotic next-door neighbor who threatened me with physical violence on Christmas Eve. Yes, the latter is worse, but it's the former I can talk to about my problems.
The vaccine issue has always been particularly grating for me. The science on vaccines is very clear and has been for a decade now, but that didn't stop an awful lot of liberals - including high-profile ones like Robert Kennedy, Jr. - from jumping on the anti-vax bandwagon. This was never based on science. It was always about opposition to the dreaded "Big Pharma." These folks allowed political opinions to stand in the way of facts, and anyone who does that raises the bile in my gullet.
Fortunately, there's been some pushback against this notion in recent years. Even the Huffington Post - notorious for its wholesale acceptance of bad science - has shifted a bit. However, the fact that these ideas have any traction at all is disturbing.
I recorded this on February 4, 2011. While it came first, think of it as a follow-up to the last one I posted. I hope this clarifies my opinion.
