Believe it or not, I'm going to spend a couple of minutes defending a couple of pretty damn indefensible "gentlemen" before going on with diary SOP.

While former CA Governator Ah - nuld the Sperminator (props to long - time blogger buddy & F.O.O. Laura!) might be a pathologically psychotically dishonest $hit who gave into the urge to determine if the 'ol pencil still had lead in it & hid the result from his wife for a decade, to my knowledge, "family values" weren't exactly a part of his official campaign platform. So, at least he ain't a hypocrite!

Next, submitted for your consideration is former bat$hit PA Senator & current bat$hit 2012 POTUS candidate & never served in the military a day in his life Man - on - Dog. Dearie, if you're going to accuse a currently - serving US Senator of not getting how torture works, make sure the Senator you accuse ain't Senator John McCentury! Yes, Senator McCentury turned bat$hit to keep the Senate seat he currently holds, he likes to joke about women being raped, and he's responsible for inflicting "that woman" onto the national political land scape (among other charming attributes), but one part of his life that is not in dispute are the sacrifices he made both physically & mentally to serve this country. Okee - dokee?

It's time for "this day in history." On May 17, 1954, the Supreme Court issued its landmark Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka ruling, which declared that racially segregated public schools were inherently unequal. The scary thought is that we have currently - serving members of Congress who would overturn that decision in...a...heart...beat if given the power & the chance. On this date in 1792, the New York Stock Exchange was founded by brokers meeting under a tree on what is now Wall Street. So, corporations owned this country within 20 years of its founding - NEATO! We never had a chance!

Finally, I say happy birthday to someone who has literally & figuratively saved my life and sanity (such as it is) & probably the lives & sanity of a whole lot of other people! Happy 50th birthday to Enya!!

Now, I got yer SPARK right here! :D Say "buh - bye" to Australian rules terlet habits. :D I guess this is one way to stay young & spry in your advanced years. Finally, I can feel my arteries hardening just READING about this dude!

On with The Rachel Maddow Show!

"New Details on Bin Laden Raid" - Was Stewie Griffin part of SEAL Team 6?! ;D I could give a shoo bee - doobie about code names, but I'm digging the other details!! However, I do not need a review of GWB acolyte attempts at revisionist history - especially a FAUX News coward who volunteered to be water boarded but chickened out. Torture in killing OBL; repeat manta daily on that score. DAMN IT! RACHEL GOT INTO MY DIARY DRAFT - AGAIN! THIEF!! ;D Rachel, I can tell you with 100% no doubt that Man - on - Dog will not apologize nor step back from what he said. Country first my a$$!

Michael Isikoff gets Man - on - Dog duty; protect your doggie if you've got one, honey!! KSM gave false information about the all - important courier while he was tortured. Again, I don't care about the changing details of this story for the most part; what I DO care about is that OBL the MoFo is DEAD.

"Immunity Deal?" - YEA - MORE ABOUT LOVERBOY ENSIGN & HIS PIMP 'OL DOC COBURN! Let's get it on, indeed!! :D Poor John Lopez ain't having such a loverly time these days. Doc Coburn keeps getting asked whether he's received immunity for his cooperation with the committee & keeps basically pleading the 5th.

"No Right Answer" - Ain't it fun to watch the GOBP eat their own & each other?! ;D Uh - oh, I might be getting into Man - on - Dog territory again - better quit while I'm ahead...or behind...or...well...NEVER MIND!! ;D Do y'all want a parliamentary - type system in this country? All this shtick would be so much easier if y'all just put me in charge & did whatever I said. ;D The official "conservative" bona fides test is reaction to the Rep. Paul Ryan kill Medicare budget plan. ALL RIGHT!

The GOBP & assorted ilk have had to spend a $hit load of coin in NY - 26 because of Rep. Paul Ryan. Rep. Ryan should fork over a little of his coin, don't cha' think?! He's decided to not run for WI's open Senate seat. Yea, he's having way too much fun & is doing just fine influence - wise right where he is, thank you very much. Me thinks Chris Hayes will have some fun with this topic! :D Chris doesn't think Newtie had a chance in Hades of winning the POTUS election anyway. Most of the "respectable" GOBP potential 2012 candidates are waiting out the bat$hit before they make their announcements.

"Glass Houses" - Ya' know, Rachel, the least you could've done if your plan was to "creatively acquire" most of my diary draft for your show was to decide to follow me on Twitter; it's not too late, ya' know! Just look for @FOOLeader!! ;D While we're agreeing about the level of hypocrisy between the Sperminator & Newtie, et al, I think we're interpreting differently what Ah - nuld said to Salon. Gail Collins is in studio to chat up GOBP "extra curricular activities."

"TRMS Best New Thing in the World Today" - 1 of Rachel's staff got to see Endeavor blast off for the last time! :D OK, tonight's edition was pretty cool.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

if I didn't know better, and I don't, I'd have to say that this whole Gingrich/Ryan dust-up sounds almost Rovian -- I mean what could possibly energize the Tea Party and other conservatives more than having Gingrich attack Ryan as being radical.  This may have exactly the opposite effect from what we think it should have.  Wait and see.

As for Arnold, there are just no words.  But maybe now conservatives will stop bringing up John Edwards all the time. I feel very sorry for Maria Shriver and her children, and that's all I intend to say about that.

Tommy Thompson is my biggest nightmare as a candidate for Herb Kohl's Senate seat.  He will turn 71 in November, 2012, but what really frightens me is that he can probably raise a TON of money.  Seeing this development, I wonder if Kohl wishes he had not announced his retirement so soon.  It's hard to think of another Democrat in this state that could confront Tommy Thompson wielding Koch brothers' money.  Maybe we still have time to attract a carpetbagger.  Bill Proxmire was from Illinois, and that was the original rap against him, but that turned out just fine.  We could use another Proxmire figure who would not be afraid of Thompson and the money machine, and could stand up to that sort of pressure.  I'm not sure that Feingold is completely up to something like that.  Ron Johnson clobbered him with money, and it worked.

  •  The first school to incorporate... (8+ / 0-)

Brown v. Board was in Clinton, TN, where on Aug. 27, 1956, twelve black students, now known as the Clinton 12, started their school year with white students.  The white citizens council caused many problems for the students and their supporters, until the school was blown up, literally blown up, a few years later.

Happy Ferlinghetti Day Your Highness!!!! ;-)

All poems today are by.... Oh heck, do I need to tell anybody after that heading? ;-)

    A Vast Confusion

Long long I lay in the sands

Sounds of trains in the surf
    in subways of the sea
    And an even greater undersound
of a vast confusion in the universe
    a rumbling and a roaring
as of some enormous creature turning
    under sea and earth
    a billion sotto voices murmuring
    a vast muttering
    a swelling stuttering
    in ocean's speakers
world's voice-box heard with ear to sand
    a shocked echoing
    a shocking shouting
of all life's voices lost in night
    And the tape of it
    someow running backwards now
through the Moog Synthesizer of time
    Chaos unscrambled
    back to the first
    And the first light

    Retired Ballerinas, Central Park West

    Retired ballerinas on winter afternoons
          walking their dogs
    in Central Park West
    (or their cats on leashes—
The cats themselves old highwire artists)
    The ballerinas
          leap and pirouette
          through Columbus Circle
          while winos on park benches
          (laid back like drunken Goudonovs)
          hear the taxis trumpet together
          like horsemen of the apocalypse
in the dusk of the gods
It is the final witching hour
when swains are full of swan songs
And all return through the dark dusk
          to their bright cells
          in glass highrises
or sit down to oval cigarettes and cakes
          in the Russian Tea Room
or climb four flight to back rooms
          in Westside brownstones
          where faded playbill photos
          fall peeling from their frames
          like last year's autumn leaves

    The Cat

    The cat
    licks its paw and
    lies down in
    the bookshelf nook
    can lie in a
    sphinx position
    without moving for so
    many hours
    and then turn her head
    to me and
    rise and stretch
    and turn
    her back to me and
lick her paw again as if
    no real time had passed
    It hasn't
and she is the sphinx with
all the time in the world
in the desert of her time
    The cat
    knows where flies die
sees ghosts in the motes of air
    and shadows in sunbeams
    She hears
the music of the spheres and
the hum in the wires of the houses
and the hum of the universe
    in interstellar spaces
    prefers domestic places
and the hum of the heater

    The Changing Light

    The changing light

                at San Francisco

is none of your East Coast light

               none of your

                       pearly light of Paris

    The light of San Francisco

                 is a sea light

                           an island light

    And the light of fog

            blanketing the hills

        drifting in at night

               through the Golden Gate

to lie on the city at dawn

And then the halcyon late mornings

        after the fog burns off

and the sun paints white houses

with the sea light of Greece

          with sharp clean shadows

           making the town look like

                                 it had just been painted

But the wind comes up at four o'clock

                                        sweeping the hills

And then the veil of light of early evening

    And then another scrim

               when the new night fog

                                floats in

And in that vale of light

                       the city drifts

                               anchorless upon the ocean

Oh, okay, I guess I oughta post this classic too ;-)

    I Am Waiting

I am waiting for my case to come up
    and I am waiting
    for a rebirth of wonder
    and I am waiting
for someone to really discover America
    and wail
    and I am waiting
    for the discovery
of a new symbolic western frontier
    and I am waiting
    for the American Eagle
    to really spread its wings
and straighten up and fly right
    and I am waiting
    for the Age of Anxiety
    to drop dead
    and I am waiting
for the war to be fought
which will make the world safe
    for anarchy
    and I am waiting
    for the final withering away
    of all governments
    and I am perpetually awaiting
    a rebirth of wonder

I am waiting for the Second Coming
    and I am waiting
    for a religious revival
to sweep through the state of Arizona
    and I am waiting
for the Grapes of Wrath to be stored
    and I am waiting
    for them to prove
    that God is really American
    and I am waiting
    to see God on television
    piped’ onto church altars
    if only they can find
    the right channel
    to tune in on
    and I am waiting
for the Last Supper to be served again
    with a strange new appetizer
    and I am perpetually awaiting
    a rebirth of wonder

I am waiting for my number to be called
    and I am waiting
for the Salvation Army to take over
    and I am waiting
for the meek to be blessed
    and inherit the earth
without taxes and I am waiting
    for forests and animals
to reclaim the earth as theirs
    and I am waiting
for a way to be devised
    to destroy all nationalisms
    without killing anybody
    and I am waiting
for linnets and planets to fall like rain
and I am waiting for lovers and weepers
    to lie down together again
in a new rebirth of wonder

I am waiting for the Great Divide to ‘be crossed
    and I am anxiously waiting
for the secret of eternal life to be discovered
    by an obscure general practitioner
    and I am waiting
    for the storms of life
    to be over
    and I am waiting
    to set sail for happiness
    and I am waiting
    for a reconstructed Mayflower
    to reach America
with its picture story and tv rights
sold in advance to the natives
    and I am waiting
for the lost music to sound again
    in the Lost Continent
in a new rebirth of wonder

I am waiting for the day
    that maketh all things clear
    and I am awaiting retribution
    for what America did
    to Tom Sawyer
    and I am waiting
    for the American Boy
    to take off Beauty’s clothes
and get on top of her
    and I am waiting
    for Alice in Wonderland
    to retransmit to me
    her total dream of innocence
    and I am waiting
    for Childe Roland to come
    to the final darkest tower
    and I am waiting
    for Aphrodite
    to grow live arms
    at a final disarmament conference
in a new rebirth of wonder

    I am waiting
    to get some intimations
    of immortality
    by recollecting my early childhood
    and I am waiting
for the green mornings to come again
youth’s dumb green fields come back again
    and I am waiting
for some strains of unpremeditated art
    to shake my typewriter
and I am waiting to write
    the great indelible poem
    and I am waiting
for the last long careless rapture
    and I am perpetually waiting
for the fleeing lovers on the Grecian Urn
to catch each other up at last
    and embrace
    and I am waiting
    perpetually and forever
    a renaissance of wonder

Yea, not only did I have 3 hours this morning of Lawrence Ferlinghetti & San Francisco, but Hubby decided he needed to watch Anthony Bourdain's show from San Francisco after I finished exercising this afternoon. If I don't get back there soonest, there might be an incident.

as a sell-out to big oil.  It's hard to deny it when everything he does with regard to energy policy seems go that way.  I don't care what he says out loud; what he's doing is exactly the opposite of what I would prefer him to do.
