The only question is which Newt to quote
So Newt Gingrich
is pre-accusing anyone who quotes his
criticism of Paul Ryan's plan to end Medicare as spreading a "falsehood." Greg Sargent
reports Democrats aren't exactly shaking in their boots at the prospect of getting attacked by Gingrich for quoting his own words:
On a conference call just now, Dem messaging chief Chuck Schumer vowed that Dems would aggressively highlight Gingrich’s attacks on the Ryan proposal — and the subsequent backlash it provoked from Republicans — to paint the GOP as hostage to extremists and ideologically hell bent on ending Medicare.
It's not just what Gingrich said about the plan that is so remarkable about how this saga is playing out. It's also the fact that the Republican Party forced Gingrich to completely recant what he originally said, and yet he still faces excommunication. Schumer:
“I feel for Speaker Gingrich,” Schumer continued. “ He’s entered the race only to find out that the Republican Party has been pushed considerably futher to the right than the party he led in the 1990s. His party has turned him into a political outcast.”
“We will not miss a single opportunity of reminding the public what it means for seniors,” Schumer concluded.
Everybody knows Gingrich was right when he originally called RyanCare a "radical" brainchild of "right-wing social engineers." The fact that it's politically incorrect to say that in today's Republican Party says at least as much about how far they've moved to the right as it does about Gingrich's ineptitude as a national politician.
