GOPer's seem to think that subsidizing wind and solar projects are picking winners and losers. We have to do what the government wants and that isn't fair for those that have to make a good honest living in the free markets?
But Tax subsidies for the oil companies are the exact same thing aren't they? I don't see why Dems don't make this argument. People without cars, or those that don't drive far, are paying additional taxes to susidize lower gas prices for those that drive further. How is this not a democrat argument for eliminating oil company subsidies?
Everyone hates higher gas prices. And there is still the question out there on whether eliminating oil subsidies would really increase gas pices or whether they would simply decrease the profits of these oil companies. But even if they do increase prices, it would largely effect those that have to drive more. And why should those that drive less pay (through taxes) for the gas of those that have to drive further. I think the Dems need to start making this argument because it plays not only to those that are for making the oil companies pay there fair share, but also to free market libertarians that think the government shouldn't be picking winners and losers.
