I'm very, very annoyed at my PCP.
I am out of my Synthroid. This is a replacement hormone I need to keep my body functioning normally, since I have hypothyroid disorder. I take the lowest dose possible, but I still need it.
Because I am in a different state than my Primary Care Provider currently, he will not call in a refill, not even to my normal pharmacy (who could then transfer the script). He will not even return my phone calls--he had a nurse call and tell me to see a doctor where I am. When I left a return message, so that I could ask why, he refused to call back. I waited 3 days.
So today I walked to the local doctor's office. Thankfully it stopped raining, and there WAS a doctor's office within walking distance. I don't have a car.
The doctor wasn't in. The nurse practitioner felt (rightly) that taking a case as complicated as mine, without records, was beyond her. She was shocked and puzzled that my doctor wouldn't call in a simple script for something as necessary and, well, non-sellable as Synthroid, though. She made the call.
And confirmed that he just won't do it. Nope, no way, no how.
Nurse and receptionist are looking offended and angry. I'm crying--if they can't convince him, I certainly won't be able to. And they only have one doctor, and he's booked solid for the next few weeks. Small town, one doctor.
They did have a solution for me. I'm to go to a walk-in clinic the next town over (or an ER) as soon as my friend can get the time to bring me. Luckily I know the area, and know exactly where it is (I impressed them when I asked them if it was the one next to the veterinary clinic, heh). They'll most likely give me a three month refill for every medication I have, given my PCP's attitude.
Chronic illness. You can't always even get your damn meds called in. Why? Because you're out of state. Even if you just saw the PCP last month (yes, I saw him in April).
