The Afrosphere has been abuzz about this video footage of D.C Metro transit police bodyslamming a homeless wheelchair bound man SUBDUING A PUBLIC MENACE WITH SPLIT-SECOND DECISIONS IN THE HEAT OF THE ACTION:
(forgive me for making you crane your neck 90 degrees)
Note the aghast reaction of the onlookers.
The video also captures this amazing exchange between one of the officers and one of the witnesses:
Citizen: "What's he locked up for???"
Officer: "Assaulting a police officer."
Citizen: "ASSAULTING A POLICE OFFICER?!?!"
Sure enough, in the WRC-TV 4 article:
He was arrested for assault on a police officer and drinking in public.
Frankly, I'm shocked that the cellphone cameraman hasn't been slapped with those phony "how dare you videotape our fine officers doing something that doesn't look so good on videotape" charges that are all the rage nowdays. I suppose its probably just a matter of time. When a legal gun owner in Philadelphia was almost shot in the brain by a cop with a very poor grasp of Philly's gun laws 2 weeks ago, said legal gun owner was charged with "reckless endangerment" and "disorderly conduct".....AFTER he posted audio of the encounter on YouTube and it went viral.
I am angry about this? Hell yes. Surprised? HA! One of my favorite bloggers (The Field Negro) concisely summed up the cynical resignation many blacks feel when it comes to police brutality stories like this:
Hey, do you all remember the movie, Training Day? Remember that scene where Snoop plays a wheelchair bound drug dealer and Ethan Hawke's character, the rookie detective, chases his ass down and checks him?
Apparently the D.C. Metro police saw it as well. They just don't trust you Negroes in wheelchairs. It could all be a hoax. Just another trick you Negroes like to play on the government to get a free SSI check.
