The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
Seattle.
I need to talk about green today, because green is what's happening in the forest
right now. Not the shades of green that I've spoken about before, the early spring green that's saturated with yellow or red or brown. No, this is full on crayon green, kid's coloring book green, fat summer green.
Green rises in textured layers from the earth to the sky. The paths are strewn with green. Green ripples over the forest floor. Green clambers over fallen logs, climbs up through the debris that came down during the winter. Green brushes my ankles and legs as I walk. Green gathers itself in the rain, drips down through the firs, the hemlocks, the alder, the cottonwood, the hazlenut, down my neck, along my back, puddles against my spine. Green squishes in my shoes.
I am drowning in green today, can not break through its surface long enough to draw in the breath to speak. Can't say more than "green".
Just green.
