Over the last few months, starting the with trio of horrific disasters in Japan (Earthquake, Tsunami, Nuclear Catastrophe) and now the Super Tornadoes of the Midwest, my wife and I have been working on a writing and recording a Disaster Benefit Song - "Finding Something Greater"
We've called in our friends from previous groups we've been in, some signed, some not signed and so far we've got something pretty decent. I handled most of the guitars and some backing vocals. We have keyboards from Ruth Nix of the Zappa inspired group Hot Food to Go. This week we just received some backing vocals, a second guitar solo and percussion back from some friends out of state who used to play with my wife in the 80's. All that's left are the live drum tracks from an old friend of mine Rocco who was most recently with the local LA hard rock group Centox, and new bass tracks from a former member of Spock's Beard. The biggest trick has been keeping this Frankenstein manageable, but having so many people involved is encouraging.
Here's what we have so far.
We have a facebook page up right now here http://www.facebook.com/...
This week we're going to redo my wife's lead vocal (what we have now is just a basic scratch track) before she goes in for back surgery and then link it up with the final rhythm tracks once we have them back. Within a couple weeks we'll the finalized version of the song up on iTunes and Amazon.
100% of the proceeds for this track (and other donated songs) will go first to Fukashima Disaster Relief via the Red Cross. With all the additional disasters such as Joplin that have occurred since then, we may be doing additional songs under the same group name.
What we need is for people to give a listen and give a SHARE on their own facebook pages, twitter, so on and so forth. The magnitude of these disasters sometimes seems more than we can comprehend, but that doesn't mean that we have to stand idly by or avert our eyes.
There are things we can do, we're doing this.
