Okay, so I'm watching HBO's "Too Big To Fail" and its all I can do to not grind my teeth to the nub. Why am I pissed? Because this docudrama could just as easily be renamed "Hank & Timmy Heroicaly Save The World." And that infuriates me to no end. Just in case you don't understand why this storyline is a total crock, follow me below the Fleur d'Kos and I'll spell it out for you.
This little turd of a movie that's got my knickers in a twist is taking us back to late 2008 when Wall Street imploded. However, instead of detailing how this disaster was years in the making, the producers inexplicably choose to portray this as Hank Paulson and Tim Geithner moved heaven and earth to save capitalism and the American Way of Life. Nevermind the fact that this crisis was the direct result of the Treasury and the (NY) Fed, which Hank and Timmy headed, failed, FAILED I say, in their fundamental responsibility to regulate the financial industry. No, instead the story is how Hank and Timmy Heroically engineered deals behind closed doors to get Wall Street to reluctantly accept billions of taxpayers dollars so they could continue to keep going on as before.
If you don't find this plot offensive, let me break it down further. You see, both Hank and Timmy are alumni Hank was an alumnus of the Great Vampire Squid, Goldman Sachs. The fact that these two were Paulson was entrusted to regulate the industry that made both men him a multi-millionares shouts to the heart of the problem; they saw their jobs as one of facilitation, not enforcement of regulations. Every scene where these two are frantically trying to do deals begs the question of why they are doing so in the first place. Each and every scene unwittingly demonstrates the true problem here - the fact that over site and enforcement lost out to coziness and insider dealings of the very people they were supposed to be laying the law down to.
And these guys are Heroes? Which sends me into orbit - both are lucky not to be behind bars for gross negligence and dereliction of duty. Give me a f'ing break!
