I don't know if this has been diaried, just got home and saw this and thought it was so awesome that I wanted to share even if it was...
Apparently some kids were able to hack into the Faux News ticker in NYC, and had their friends film it.
The video is awesome, particularly the anxiety before it happens and the excitement afterward:
Transcript:
WE ARE BEING LIED TO. RIGHTWINGERS ARE DESTROYING THE MIDDLE CLASS AND TRYING TO KILL OUR UNIONS. THE COUNTRY IS NOT BROKE. WE ARE THE RICHEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD. USA IS TWICE AS RICH AS CHINA. OUR ECONOMY IS BIGGER THAN MOST OF EUROPE COMBINED. WE ARE NOT BROKE. WE ARE BEING LIED TO. WE WILL RISE UP. WE WILL FIGHT BACK. WE WILL SPREAD THE TRUTH.
I know this is a short diary, but I wanted to share and maybe send you some of the smiles that I got when I watched this. The kids are alright...
"UPDATE": I know diaries are supposed to be a little more fleshed out. The above video speaks for itself. But this is what it made me think of, so here's some "fleshing out":
Jealous cowards try to control
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
They distort what we say
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
Try and stop what we do
Rise above
When they can't do it themselves
We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use
Society's arms of control
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
Think they're smart
Can't think for themselves
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
Laugh at us
Behind our backs
I find satisfaction
In what they lack
We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use
We are born with a chance
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
I am gonna have my chance
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
We are tired of your abuse
Try to stop us it's no use
Rise above
Rise above
Rise above
We're gonna rise above
We're gonna rise above
We're gonna rise above
UPDATE 2: A couple commenters have mentioned that this might be fake, an After Effects edit or something. Personally, I don't think so, b/c no credit is attributed--what would be the point to get a bunch of views or something for no promotion? Am I thinking wrong here? Anyway, just wanted to acknowledge some of the doubters. If it WAS a fake, all I can offer is that it's still amusing and my apology. But I hope it is real. =)
**Again, some people have questioned whether this is real or not and I just want to put it out there--I saw it on the internet. Which, as we know, may or may not always be the most reliable source. It was on Alternet. But, even if faked, I still think it is cool, and agree very much with this from the comments:
Likely a hoax, but still cool (4+ / 0-)
After looking around I doubt the ticker hack was for real but it is still a pretty awesomely entertaining message.

yeah (3+ / 0-)
blogs "outed" Breitbart's latest trickery, didn't they?
Even if it's fake, you know what? The message is what's important here. FOX LIES. FOX IS PROPAGANDA.
It's about time ways were found to get that message viral, and at least TRY to help the clueless get one. At this point, I don't give a good goddamn if
(you) want to claim immunity from the laws of common decency because (you) happen to be the good guys then know that the guys from the right will make that claim as well.
Because they already make that claim anyway, no matter what./
Really, with all that is being done in our name, to our people, to our way of life, to our country, and to our future, the concern trolling is way out of proportion to it. We need to quit being so damned proper, because "lawful" sure isn't going to out-dirty-trick (insert famous sleaze-merchant name here)
and btw, you're accusing the diarist with nothing to back it up. If you're going to be so "proper", then don't fling accusations unless you can actually back them up with substance.

Again, I'm not a reporter; maybe it is fake--I'd defer to the AfterEffects pros. But even if it is, I still stand by thinking it is pretty sweet, and if it is seen by lots of people, it's still a neat example of creative messaging using technology (YouTube).
UPDATE AGAIN!: Top of the rec list. First time. Credit goes to those who did it, or faked it. Still to me, if the video gets seen thousands of times with a message that America is not broke and rightwingers are trying to kill our unions, I'm ok with it.
LAST UPDATE: So, from some of the comments posted it appears that there is at least a strong possibility that it is indeed faked; regardless, the point made is still a good one. FWIW, there is another video that was posted by the person on YT that posted the ticker vid "explaining" a general idea of how they did it--on one hand, personally, if real some of the methods that the poster described leave me with some slightly mixed feelings. On the other hand, just have to say that faked or not, again it is pretty creative, but more importantly--how amazing is it that within a few hours of posting this diary, several Kossacks were able to analyze frames and such, post screenshots with visual representation of the point they were making, with specific timeline notations and all that?
A few commenters said that this video gives them hope for the future. After reading some of these comments, it isn't just the overall creativity of the hack/fake that gives me hope--it's the collective abilities of the people in this community that does it for me. What an amazing place! (And if it is a fake, I hope the commenters who said they would hire the kids who did it maybe actually get in touch with them and do so.)
All in all, I stand by a) the importance of the message and b) the entertainment value. Thanks for reading, cheers. -nickinnewyork
