Yesterday, I wrote a late night diary about a couple of things the Israeli State or its PM has been doing while we all do anxiety about a peace deal, which affect that deal or the issues presented.
There is more today related to that, on the subject of Bedouins and their treatment.
First, one of the matters I mentioned last night was a newspaper article, this one from Ha'aretz
Now today appears this article indicating that a group of Bedouins located in the area are being relocated to an urban area, and a new Jewish town is planned to be built in their place. Of course, the Bedouins object, and say they would notmind being next to the proposed town, but that is not what is projected.
Second, I was not aware until I saw this article and another like it today, that Israel is building a fence not unlike the border fence in the US southwest, ostensibly to bar human traffic into Israel, smuggled by, you guessed it, Bedouins.
And then there is this, an article about Israelis who are obtaining out of insecurity, foreign passports. Not a bedouin issue, but one mentioned occasionally before as to Russians iirc. These are apparently Jewish Israelis who do have Israeli passports, but who are entitled to and who are now getting in serious numbers passports from other states, which would presumably entitle them to go and live there, not as immigrants but as dual citizens.
It is another indication of the concern of some Israelis about various security and other issues, which may exacerbate the demographic concerns of those who support current Israeli government policies on demographics of Israel, because of the shift it may cause in the numbers required to keep a Jewish majority in Israel, or to prevent non Jews from coming and staying because of the effect on the Jewish majority.
Again, as with yesterday, these are posted for their relevance to both last night and to the ongoing discussion, as issues which either affect the treatment in Israel of non Jewish Israeli citizens - I did not receive any comments last night indicating a simiilar shift of so many Israeli citizens in a prior occasion, although I asked for one if there was one - or effects on either of the populations which might be relevant but not carried as part of the conversation here.
