I see people missing a fairly obvious point when it comes to pie fights and people writing diaries that "offend" someone. It happens over and over. I'm not even going to say what diary prompted me to write this, so as not to be part of the back-and-forth.
My point is simply this: It is not effective or appropriate to ask people not to write certain types of diaries that get on the rec list... because if those diaries didn't resonate with at least a sizeable group of people, guess where they would be? Ignored, just another lonely diary slipping off the "recent" list.
Forgive me for the short diary, I just think this is a point that's often missed. When someone writes a diary essentially asking someone to shut up about something or other, they must do so with the full awareness that they are censoring a viewpoint that - and this is the key point - is at least valid enough to have resonated with enough people to get it on the Rec List.
So just remember, it's fine to have a problem with a diary - but be clear, you also have a problem with every single person who recommended it, and if you are trying to quash the diary, you are trying to quash a whole group of people.
If you're okay with that, then carry on.
