Maybe we should start a group here at KOS where we have items we want to give away or donate or just rid of and there are a lot of wrinkles to iron out but this IMO is beneficial to the community and would help we Kossacks as well.  Good example.
I had practically a new stove and a dryer and refrigerator I could have given to a Kossack in Ga when I moved.  I gave it away to anyone who wanted it but left the refrigerator freezer as I didn't sell it and was begging for people to please use it.
IF we had a group on here I am sure someone would have come got it or arranged for a pick up.  Right now I am in need of a used laptop.  I am quite sure with the

economy being what it is, we could all find things to help each other out.  If we know of a Kossack nearby or even in another state, they may have relatives who could use it or hold it until they got it.  This is where I need your input.  How would we barter on here or arrange for shipping or whatever and what do you folks think of starting a group to help each other out with items like exchange or clothes or whatever.  Small
appliances or anything that we don't need anymore but a Kossack could use.
I commented on another diary and folks urged me to put up a diary regarding this very thing.  Since we are counting our nickles and dimes, plus we could further support this site if we are not buying items that some of us have sitting gathering dust.  We are all pretty much broke so this is not such a bad idea.  Any suggestions?  Any reservations?
Need your imput.   I had a bad December and I have seen others on here with special needs and we are a community and for the most part we are all friends here.   Maybe a group could set up a few pantry or needs section.  Need input.

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I've been reading your diaries. And I know you're about helping everyone.
If you need a laptop, there's nothing wrong with you asking for help.
This is what Kos is all about. Kossacks helping each other and everyone else too.

I got the money for  my computer from a govt program called the Pass Plan.
It's a Social Security Work Incentive Program! I have a link to it in this diary.

I think you have a wonderful idea to help Kossacks who need and need to know, where to exchange stuff and ideas.

This is why I write diaries, to help people!

  •  There's a Kossacks Networking site, (6+ / 0-)

but it appears inactive.  It's a great idea if it can get critical mass (a big if).  If it can't get critical mass, then semi-regular diaries that create a forum for swapping stuff and resources would do the trick almost as well.

    •  Exactly (7+ / 0-)

I was paying for a small ad to give things away in our local community because the yard sale was a bust and it was cold..and snowing...  I ended up having to pay someone to unload perfectly good items...We could actually do a lot for the site  and donate to it's upkeep regarding extra change in our pockets and if someone had a good deal on a used vehicle or wanted to get rid of something or needed  somethingthat was not a huge loss to them but a great item to someone in need, it would be worth the effort.  Say someone bought a new bicycle or something of that nature or patio set and needed to unload the other..Even though it was still good.  Hey ya'll this may be considered socialism but I think it would work.  Bernie Sanders would be proud.

  •  I like the idea of doing this at DKos (11+ / 0-)

but I also wondered if you had heard of Freecycle.com?

We have used it near several military bases, mainly to give stuff away. But people also make requests and often find what they're looking for. The email traffic can be overwhelming in some locations. I am shocked at some of the things people are willing just to give away for free!

But, there is something to be said about knowing who you're going to give to in the community.

Would you mind if I posted a note in a few open threads this week about your need for a laptop? Maybe we help you that way?

I rather like the idea of being able to help out other kossaks - and particularly, meeting other local kossaks would be nice. Surely we all have extra "stuff" no matter what our finances - and our needs are always changing too. I like this!

Sara and The Street Prophets.  It probably needs its own space but remember the Kossack who hated like heck a couple of weeks ago to come on here.  We jumped in and helped and that is just one example.
No matter what the circumstance, we are in tight times and unlike winger, we don't disciminate.  If someone needs a good used blender or toaster or setting up their dorm room, there would be a place to check out some freebies being donated.  I like my idea I just don't know how to go about actually getting the thing working ..thus the wrinkles.  I mean if a bike cost more to ship than it is worth then that would be a problem but I am looking at solutions and I probably don't need to go there in my head..the problems........I am still working on how to reset up my local org for vets down here in Florida without having to totally revamp the secretary of state thing and dissolving in Ga.  Having someone run it up there is what I hav been doing but people don't like doing things totally free.  Even I got tired of forking out the money to keep it going.

a "classified ads" section to dkos. it'd give people like "bridaldresses" a place to post her "diaries."
