Okay, I absolutely cannot believe that we have to fucking go over this on dailykos -- of all fucking places. God, I have had it up to here with the borderline racist comments that people pass off as criticism of the president. Okay, I have tons of things that I am, quite frankly, pissed at the White House for over the past couple of years, but you don't hear me spouting off calling the president a goddamn "surrender monkey" and shit -- okay? Its not fucking okay to refer to a black man in that manner. I repeat -- IT IS NOT FUCKING OKAY TO REFER TO A BLACK MAN IN THAT MANNER. Period. End of discussion. No fucking "oh it came from the simpsons" -- look, I don't give two shits where it came from. Are we really that privileged? Are we really going to try to explain away someone referring to a black man in that 18th century racist way? You can't be serious.
Look I am sorry to be angry, but this is absolutely not acceptable discourse. Voice your disagreements with the White House -- hell even call them nasty names if that is the way you decide to voice your opinions. But racism, even if not intended is absolutely unacceptable. I don't give a shit what your intentions are -- if someone says you are being a racist asshole DO NOT DOUBLE DOWN. Apologize. No sarcasm, no snideness, and yes, even if you didn't mean to be racist -- just. fucking. apologize. for. it. And mean it.
Thats all it takes people, thats all it takes. Look, this should be a safe environment for everyone to post -- and say whatever the fuck you want about the internet and staying out of the kitchen if you don't like fire -- I don't care. Dailykos, of all places on the net, should be a safe place for all people to post. There is no room for criticism like that here.
Let me be quite clear -- when you put your criticisms in this manner, you hurt all the people who have legitimate criticisms of the president, and there are plenty of them. When you toss in racism -- intended or not -- you hurt us as a community, as progressives, and as people. And when you continue to dig yourself into a deeper hole, you just do more damage to our credibility. When you try to explain away calling the first black President of the United States a "monkey", no matter what came before it in the sentence, or any of the other racist names out there, you hurt us.
Voice your dissent, voice it loud and proud. But the racism, and hatred of all kinds, has got to stop.
Thank you.
