Mitt Romney is saying that Obama should have gotten more concessions from the Russians in the START Treaty, and blames Obama's inexperience for not getting them.
Mitt Romney Cites New START Treaty As Proof of Obama’s ‘Inexperience’
Mitt Romney, an official candidate for the GOP nomination, had some harsh words for President Obama last week, citing the New START treaty as an example of “inexperience in the White house.” Romney, who is widely considered a frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, typically cites his economic experience as a successful businessman but on Friday, Romney decided to test out his foreign policy chops in a blog post titled “the Price of Inexperience.”
Romney argued that the New START treat could have been an opportunity to”extract a number of concessions from the Russians.” Romney pointed out that Russia may have been able to help the U.S. negotiate with Iran and North Korea from a stronger position.
Never mind that a number of Republican Senators voted for the treaty, or that the Republicans top foreign policy experts Senator Lugar and former Senator Danforth with decades of foreign policy experience strongly supported passage of the START treaty, that has now been ratified.
By making this dubious charge, and claiming that the U.S. should have gotten a more from the Russians Romney is putting his own nonexistent expertise in foreign policy up for scrutiny.
Romney is showing us his own inexperience by attacking the START Treaty.
