More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

If the author had actually written some words about the event, or even posted a link to the Slut Walk Seattle website, perhaps there might be an acceptable justification for it.

Lacking that, my Subject: line is a fallback position for choosing the name.

    •  Knowing some people involved (0+ / 0-)

it is not 'just shock value'.

It is about shame, the lack of, and having their own sexual agency.

If you define a slut as someone who has more sex then you do, then the people who do, and are ok with that can still be happy with how they decide.

Besides which, for the purpose of this march, the idea is that no matter how someone behaves in general, that is not specific permission for any individual to assume consent which is not actually granted.

For comparison sake, Queer as a word has been strongly reclaimed by some folk in the greater LGBT community.

nasty word, and one I choose not to use.  However, if you understand the back story, that a police officer in Toronto while speaking to law students, said that if women didn't want to get molested or raped, they should be careful what they wear, and not dress in too sexy of a manner.  It kind of scares me that a person charged with public safety would be that dense, and blame the victim for an assault.  So in the context of that police officer and his statements, I have no problem with the organizers of these walks using that word.  I still don't have to say it.  I just wish I could join the walk in Detroit on the 25th, but will, ironically be in the Pacific Northwest that weekend.  Peace to you down under GlowNZ, and hopes that Christchurch is recovering.

about what it means to be raped and then treated like you, the victim, is the wrong-doer.

The "Slut-Marches" which started in Toronto due to a chauvinist police officer who told women they wouldn't get raped if they didn't dress "like sluts", has sparked demonstrations around the world: London, Edinburg, Dublin, India, Mexico, Australiam the U.S..... tand on and on, even Nicaragua.

Now women, and the men who love them, are thinking, talking and acting to restore dignity and respect to women.

Great job, thanks for the videos.
