First and most important... Carlos Aparicio, a respected track coach in Phoenix, Arizona, was taken into custody at Phoenix ICE offices this afternoon. Aparicio had gone to the ICE office to request a deferment of his deportation order, which had required him to have left the country by last Friday. No doubt he is now a guest of either Sheriff Joe or the ICE prison contractor in the Phoenix area....

Here is a link to Aparicio's story: http://blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/...

Aparicio is not a Dreamer because of his age...however, Dreamers consider him one of their own... and this guy has done a lot of good for his adopted community...

They also consider him one of the first to fall...  There are others in line and there will be more.

Another DREAMER who is facing deportation is Julio Salgado, who is gay as well as undocumented... http://youtu.be/...

An article about Salgado  http://www.insidesocal.com/...

Obama is in big trouble with the Latin/Hispanic community... his record deportations of non-criminal undocumented immigrants has not gone unnoticed on Univision... and his excuse that he is bound to enforce the law as it is written is less than convincing when one looks at the number of bankster/fraudsters and friends of Scooter Libby and the Torture Crew that have gone unpunished...

If Obama thinks his little trip to Puerto Rico or a lot of smiles, pretty words and little/no action will motivate the Latino/Hispanic vote...he is in for a rude surprise...

Jorge Ramos is the most respected and watched journalist to the Latino community... Ramos is originally from Mexico and he is extremely aware of Obama's unkept promises regarding immigration reform, the DREAMERS and the impact of the draconian ICE round-ups on families...

The DREAMERS need your help... please call....

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

  •  Diary is factually incorrect (6+ / 5-)

    You claimed that:

Obama is in big trouble with the Latin/Hispanic community... his record deportations of non-criminal undocumented immigrants has not gone unnoticed on Univision... and his excuse that he is bound to enforce the law as it is written is less than convincing when one looks at the number of bankster/fraudsters and friends of Scooter Libby and the Torture Crew that have gone unpunished...

NOT TRUE...in fact, a recent poll dated 6/14/2011 showed the stark opposite:

The poll revealed that Latino registered voters had favorable opinions of President Obama with 70% of Hispanics showing approval of the job the President is doing while 33% disapprove of his performance. Furthermore, 55% will vote or are leaning to vote for Obama in the upcoming 2012 election.

And could this be the reason why the Repugs are paying you to write this drivel (posing as a disgruntled "Latino?"). Seems to be commonplace these days - on "progressive" sites.

The poll also asked registered voters about how the Republican and Democrat Parties reached out to Latino voters. The results showed that 52% felt that Democrats were doing a good job while only 18% felt the same about Republicans.

Been posting here under MiguelMas/MiguelMas1 since 2003...

you get your info from polls, I get mine from watching noticias en espanol en Univision and talking with my numerous Latino/Hispanic friends... (my wife is from Mexico)...

If you believe the Latino community is going to be motivated to turn out for Obama after his total fails on immigration reform and the DREAM Act, you must be an ObamaBot or someone who only gets their info from polls..

He may have gotten a 70% approval rating for whatever questions were asked in that poll, but that does not mean he will get the huge turnout in 2012 that he got in 2008... If you and Big O believe that, then you are the real dreamers...

Anyway, you do not speak for the Latino Community just because your wife is from Mexico. And I feel sorry for her...marrying a man dumb enough to be siding with a group of Repugs who believe that Mexicans immigrants caused the fires in Arizona.

P.S. I'm glad to be an Obamabot. I'd rather be an "Obamabot" than you anyday.

"Latinos will/won't vote for Obama" is clearly a matter of opinion. Even if the polls shows Latinos favoring Obama now, (a) miguelmas1 claims to be close to the Latino community and sensing opinion shift, and (b) the polls probably say little about turnout. E.g., in Nov 2010 polls showed a majority of Americans agreed with the Dems on most issues, but a majority of voters clearly did not. Maybe what miguelmas1 is sensing is this "enthusiasm gap" manifesting among Latinos as well.

At any rate, he's said nothing donut-worthy. Just thinking he's wrong, or even stupid or counterproductive, isn't enough. Shouldn't be, anyway.

I simply said that I don't believe that he is who he claims to be. And I know that there are Republican operatives out there pretending to be disaffected Dems, gays, Blacks, or whatever demographic thought to be likely to vote for Obama next year. The diary seems more like anti-Obama propaganda than a genuine action plan for undocumented Hispanics.

I saw miguelmas1 had been HR'd, and assumed since you called him a shill, you had given him the HR. But I was wrong. Sorry.

Still, unless you have proof he's a shill, calling him one is an overreaction. Remember the front-pagers a week or so ago with "proof" Weiner had been framed?

More substantively, it's pretty obvious from the 2010 election results that there's been a dropoff in enthusiasm for Obama and the Dems since 2008. Trying to examine the reasons does not make miguelmas1 a shill.

FWIW, in the middle of this little attack, I was somehow mysteriously promoted to TR user status... which I used to have years back when I comented and posted on a more regular basis... Think that whoever did that would do it for a Repuglican shill?

to call names and make ad hominem attacks.... and I did not start with the HR's... FYI I was mysteriously given the TR status AFTER this little battle started... and I had been HR'd by several of the friends of the person who was calling me a Repuglican shill, an ashamed mexican, and other such comments, including snide remarks about how my wife must be ashamed to be married to me...

Any HR's I subsequently gave out were for those ad hominem attacks and name calling

I'm just explaining. You abused HR. I see you have no diaries and 82 comments. It boggles the mind why you have TU status. Maybe you should brush up on the rules before you start flinging donuts.

                          •  What planet did you look for my diaries on? (0+ / 0-)

I have been on KOS since 2002 or 2003... Miguelmas until I forgot my password and no longer used the email that name was registered under... then Miguelmas1..

If you look at my diaries page, you will see my last was on Dec. 9, 2010..about the DREAMers...  If you remember the video Slinkerwink did of the people wanting a public option in HCR, I was the editor who put that vid together...

As for my abusing HR... I was the person who was getting beat up on with ad hominem attacks on my motives for my diary, insinuations about my heritage, snide remarks about my wife, by one person in particular who was aided by a couple of others who were throwing donuts around pretty freely...

You are entitled to your opinion, but I believe I am entitled to respectful treatment from the beginning with the BS that Hopefruit2 was throwing at me...

I suggest you look a lot more carefully before choosing sides. I have had TU status off and on over the years and have NEVER had anyone react to a diary i have posted the way these folks reacted to this one...

                          •  You have also abused HR on this (0+ / 0-)

You HR'd my comment Be Careful Who You Call A Repug Shill

for what? the term Obamabot?  I did not directly call anyone an Obamabot,I made a statement that said

If you believe the Latino community is going to be motivated to turn out for Obama after his total fails on immigration reform and the DREAM Act, you must be an ObamaBot or someone who only gets their info from polls..

If you are sensitive about my comments, perhaps you should read the rest of Hope's comments and pass a few donuts round to her and i will be more than happy to retract mine...

                          •  When you HR their insults against me (0+ / 0-)

I will be happy to comply with your interpretation of the rules...

As for Obamabots  being a no-no, first I have heard of it...  I promise not to use the term again... I apologize for the unwitting use of that term...

However the point remains that Hope was the one who started off with the Repuglican shill accusations and compounded that with further insults... I do not see where you have held her to the same standard...

    •  The diary appears to be factually correct (11+ / 0-)

and you seem incapable of telling the difference between an opinion and fact. The diarist expressed his view of how Hispanics will vote; unless the poll was exit polling via time machine, it still represents a guess about how Hispanics will vote 14 months from now - it certainly isn't a "fact" - and your reliance on the poll is your opinion of its validity.

Having a different opinion than yours does not make one a Republican, nor allow you to insult others without being HR'd.

And as to facts, you can follow the links in the diary to verify those. New Times hardly looks like a Republican or conservative site, and MediaMatters has confirmation that the Obama administration has deported people at rates higher than the Bush administration (something I would have taken for common knowledge, as it's been posted here a number of times in the past).

My father and I bought thousands of head of cattle from large ranches in that border area of Az... and I would never believe what Mccain has to say, nor would I assume to accuse anyone without proof of setting that fire...  there are an an awful lot of white rednecks in that area that like to camp (Minutemen) while they are helping "guard the border"... they could very well have thrown a lit cig butt or left a campfire smoldering, or even deliberately set the fire....

decide to NOT deport Mexican immigrants, it's because they would like to keep them in America undocumented, underemployed, scapegoated and exploited so that what just happened in Arizona can continue to happen.

Obama administration thinks differently - deport them, or give them a proper path to citizenship. Don't harbour them as cattle on the ranch, keeping them overworked, underpaid, undereducated, scapegoated and exploited.

Saying "Obama is in big trouble with Hispanics" is not a fact. The diarist provides ZERO evidence to back up his claim.

It is a FACT that a scientific poll was taken of Hispanic attitudes, and suggested the opposite of what the diarist said. "Miguel" cites on only anecdotes and trash talk about Obama's visit to Puerto Rico (which by the way  he promised BEFORE he became President).

The fact that the Obama administration has deported people at rates higher than that of the Bush administration does NOT mean that Obama is in big trouble with Latinos. Just as Bush went into Iraq with no intention of catching Bin Laden, or defeating actual terrrorists, so he and his administration allowed illegal immigration so that Republicans would have easy and ready-made scapegoats whenever something went wrong. For example  McCain's scapegoating of Mexican immigrants as starting fires; the humiliating "show me your papers" legislation and other ways in which they seek to humiliate and oppress Latinos while claiming "but Obama deports them more than Bush!!"That's how Republicans roll.  President Obama cracks down on illegal immigration while wanting to do do something about LEGAL immigration. That's what serious people do.

Secondly, Because "miguel's" wife is Mexican doesn't mean that he and she speaks for all Latinos, who are Cubans, Dominicans, Ecuadorians, Puerto Ricans, etc. They are not a monolithic group, and Miguel certainly doesn't speak for "Latinos" any more than Michael Steele speaks for Blacks.

I stand by my comment that "miguel" is one IGNORANT Republican shill.

I don't like the use of the word Obamabot either but I also saw the provocation... now to the content.

This administration is in danger of blowing the goodwill of the Hispanic population with its indiscriminate use of deportations. This is true and Hispanic people are trying in every way possible to warn the administration that they need to change course. Where I disagree with the diarist is whether or not the dire results he predicts will come true.

I think the diarist makes a mistake when he goes to such lengths in discribing the dire consequences of Obamas actions. Indeed I wish the diarist had instead explained the circumstances of the communities unrest and asked for the help of Obama supporters (a big majority on DKOS) for his cause. He asks us to call and support but at the same time calls people Obamabots and then throws out things like this

If Obama thinks his little trip to Puerto Rico or a lot of smiles, pretty words and little/no action will motivate the Latino/Hispanic vote...he is in for a rude surprise...

I think Puerto Rican democrats probably would disagree.

But the point is the diarist has good points to make about this administrations policies and the causes he asks us to call about are good and legitimate causes for progressives to support. His manner of seeking our support though is lacking finesse at the least.

Still no call for the ad hominem attacks and insinuations... and I did NOT say the Puerto Ricans were not happy with the visit, but the Latino community impacted by the deportations is much larger than the Puerto Riquenos..

But mine is exactly the opposite. I live and work with many in the Latino community and they are supportive of Obama and what he has tried to accomplish.  Deportations are not good but the community is far more concerned with jobs and conditions for those who are still here.  Hispanic communities are not all the same.  Anecdotal evidence may have something to add to the discussion but it isn't wise to make major judgements without additional information.

    •  The diarist is not interested (1+ / 0-)

in advocating for Latinos. He is interested in spreading propaganda in order to erode the relatively strong support that the President currently enjoys among Hispanics. He's using a specious argument about deportation to bolster his grievance but:

Number of deportations of undocumented immigrants is a poor barometer of how well a group is treated by an administration.  The Republicans are actively trying to block any serious pathway to legality for immigrants, and would prefer to keep a certain proporation of illegal immigrants in the country to perform cheap labor, be scapegoated whenever things go wrong. Who blocked the DREAM Act in congress? President Obama? I don't think so.

Something tells me that the diarist has never had the actual experience of being an illegal immigrant (which I have) but is latching on to a "cause" just "because."

      •  Stick it in.NOW TWIST IT!!! (0+ / 0-)

Hopefruit2, you must have those x-ray wayfarer shades on because you saw right through this post. Also, the thing about being an Obamabot!?! Is that an insult as oppose to being an Palinbot. A RYANBOT or even a Decepticon (modern day republican or ponzis.(which I like to call'em)?!?
Oh yeah...If the Latino voters want to significantly accelerate deportations, have no real path to citizenship and stagnant latino population growth, then vote for the fence-ready, anchor baby rights deniers, tell it to your face bigorty spewers, money-worshipping Republican party of the United States.

the diarist is saying things a lot of Hispanics people are saying. He just was inept in saying them. The big increase in deportations has alarmed many in the community and like most Americans they tend to blame the administration. At the same time they also know the truth of what you say about the GOP. Like all of us they want action on their needs.

Get people out to protest and make calls to pressure your congress people to pass the DREAM Act so Obama can sign it into law.

before they got their butts kicked in the fall elections and lost the House.... Even in December, Obama did not push as hard for DREAM as he could and should have. Reid scheduled the Senate DREAM vote at the tail end of the session and it was #3 on the list that day... it died just a few D votes short... You should have heard the buzz on Univision when that happened.

You, me, and everyone who supports the DREAM Act should call, mail, pressure our congress people to pass it. Obama pushed Congress to pass it. Obama's already for it and wants to sign it. He's the president, but he's also just one person. Just imagine the influence we would have had if tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands in some states, called their congress people to urge them pass the DREAM Act. I rarely noticed an action diary here last year pushing petitions or urging people to call senators who might be on the fence, etc. regarding the DREAM Act. I'd like to see people around here get as organized and active for the DREAM Act as they were for the Wisconsin Walker/GOP Senate Recall efforts.

Latinos are too broad to really lump together, but here in Texas, you are seeing a huge backlash against Obama over immigration reform (well, the lack thereof.)  It's common knowledge that he has deported more people than Bush, and that he seemed callous because he didn't care when his own aunt was being deported.

That being said, I have no doubt that the majority of latino voters will vote for Obama in 2012.  However, I also have no doubt that the turnout of latinos will be smaller than it was in 2008.  I'd go as far as saying that the turnout in general will be much smaller as Obama has basically told the left to go to hell and for the most part acted like he's the third administration of George W. Bush.  I hate the Green party, but even I've been thinking about whether I can bring myself to vote for Obama again or not, given that he seems to care more for impressing Republicans than impressing his base.
