A bus-sized hunk of rock, Asteroid 2011MD, is making a near pass over the Earth at the moment. The closeness of the pass is about one Earth diameter.
Schedule
Here is the time of the closest approach:
10:14 am PDT
11:14 am MDT
12:14 pm CDT
1:14 pm EDT
Path
The asteroid comes in from the north. It passes over the western part of Australia. It then makes a truly wild U-turn, approximately over the Ross Ice Shelf. Then it heads back out and north over the Pacific.
Best Viewing Spot
The best viewing spot is said to be halfway between the southern tip of South America, and Antarctica. Which is unfortunate, because
a) Halfway between the southern tip of South America and Antarctica is a difficult place to get to.
b) It's daylight there anyways.
Action
Since the asteroid is not especially viewable, we could, perhaps, just all face south at 1:14 pm eastern, and wave.
Note to those waving from the West Coast, or especially Hawaii: the asteroid is coming pretty much right back at you.
