The Arab Spring has been a time of hope, joy and tragedy. If what Y-net says is true, then the International Criminal Court and the UN are going to turn it into a time of just plain tragedy.
There was a report on the Y-net website saying that, al-Sharq al-Awsat, an Arabic newspaper based in London, said that next week the special UN prosecutors investigating the murder of former Lebanese Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, will finally issue indictments.
These indictments, according to the site, will consist of five Hizbullah members, who were acting at the request of the organization and the government of Syria.
As we know, Hizbullah claims to be totally innocent, blames Israel for everything, and threatens to overthrow the government of Lebanon should these indictments go down. Remember the report in Reuters where a Hizbullah spokesman said something to the effect that it may start another war with Israel to relieve pressure on Syria?
Well, this might actually be the trigger for something like that, which may very well involve Turkey and Iran.
However, on the other hand, Hizbullah's puppet government, which finally took office, may just ignore the indictments, and the UN will have no power to do anything to prevent it. That will be the end of the International Criminal Court and the special tribunal, because they won't have any power to enforce their writ.
So we'll see what happens.
