NYT: Strauss-Kahn Case Seen as in Jeopardy
Basically, what you have is very timid reporting from the NYT detailing the defense's game-plan, which of course is to damage the alleged victim's credibility. All's fair in love, war and rape cases, apparently.
From the look of it, she's possibly guilty of money-laundering for her drug dealing boyfriend. Last I checked, that doesn't mean a person must endure this...
Here's her story.
The luxury-hotel maid who alleges she was sexually assaulted by Dominique Strauss-Kahn was found by a supervisor in a hallway where she hid after escaping from the former International Monetary Fund director's room. Hotel workers described her as traumatized, having difficulty speaking, and immediately concerned about pressing charges and losing her job, according to sources familiar with the investigation.
The maid also repeatedly spit on the walls and floors of the suite in front of her hotel colleagues as she alleged that Strauss-Kahn locked her in his room and forced her into oral sex acts. That saliva is being tested for DNA markers and could become a crucial piece of evidence in the case, the sources said.
Throughout the questioning, the maid appeared traumatized, at one point going to a bathroom to try to vomit and several times spitting on the floor and walls of the suite, according to the sources.
That's one hell of an elaborate plan she had there. And such luck targeting a man infamous for being a "friend to women".
She was worried about losing her job if she pressed charges, it's not much of a stretch that she'd lie about her involvement with a drug dealer.
Yes, yes, yes... DSK is innocent until proven guilty. That's the law. I've stayed out of this mess just for that reason. I even threw in a shit-ton of alleged's that I cringed while typing in order to be fair. But I can't in good conscience let this character assassination stand. She had the courage to come forward, and the defense "have made it clear that they would make the credibility of the woman a focus of their case." (read: smear campaign) I just would hope it doesn't get any play here.
Don't dismiss an alleged rape victim because her drug dealing boyfriend thought a few bucks could be made on her tragedy.
