I guess $2-3 Billion in Budget Savings is just "peanuts" if you're a Wall Street Journal editor, or the Majority Leader of the House too ...
Little US Revenue Boost Seen From Jet-Tax Proposal
by Robert Schroeder, wsj.com -- June 29, 2011
Obama said stripping the tax break for jets and other industries would mean more money for education and urged Republicans to join him in finishing a deal to shrink the deficit.
He said that without raising revenues, the National Weather Service could be compromised, medical research wouldn't be funded and food inspection could suffer. Obama said he told Republican leaders: "You go talk to your constituents, the Republican constituents, and ask them, are they willing to compromise their kids' safety so that some corporate-jet owner continues to get a tax break."
[...]
An industry source and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor's office say that the [jet] proposal would result in between $2 billion to $3 billion in revenue over 10 years.
[...]
Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for Cantor, said the tax proposal on corporate jets "pales in comparison to the $2 trillion in spending cuts that Leader Cantor and Senator Kyl identified during negotiations with Vice President Biden."
So that's Cantor's Plan? Slash and Burn, everything must go -- Slash $2T worth of Govt programs ...
But whatever you do -- for God's sake, Don't Make him ride Coach!
Oh the Horrors!
You see, Eric Cantor has important "Aspen Events" he must attend ... at a moments notice:
Cantor jets around, donates big with PAC money
politico.com -- May 19, 2011
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor flew on a private jet during a recent trip to Aspen, Colo., and dined at the restaurant owned by former Rep. Katherine Harris's brother while he was there, according to a report his political action committee filed with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.
No worries though, Eric Cantor and his Tea Party cohorts do have a Plan to "fix America" -- but good ...
Rumor Mill: House Leadership Hostile to Transpo Reauthorization
by Tanya Snyder, dc.streetsblog.org -- June 28, 2011
A few weeks ago, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor published his list of bills the House will attempt to get through before the August recess. The transportation reauthorization was not among them.
Rumor has it that House leadership has put the kibosh on Transportation Committee Chair John Mica’s plans to get a bill out of committee and to the House floor in July. Supposedly, House Speaker John Boehner has told Mica not to mark up a bill, since it would just languish without a vote anyway.
[...]
House Republicans are still saying they won’t accept any new taxes, leaving spending cuts as the only way to cut $1 trillion from the deficit. Their recipe for transportation? About a 33 percent cut, bringing transportation in line with current balance in the Highway Trust Fund. (The new formula bars spending based on anticipated revenues.) There’s not a state in the union that wouldn’t feel these cuts, deeply.
Bye-bye High Speed rail ...
Eric Cantor and his Tea Party cohorts do have a Plan to "fix transportation" -- it's called ... More of the Same:
No worries though, those Corporate-funded Tea Party Reps are taking key steps to keep their backers happy:
Memo reveals GOP summer plan
by Jake Sherman, politico.com -- 6/10/11
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor told Republican lawmakers in a memo Friday what to expect for the rest of the summer, including votes on three stalled trade agreements, action on an intelligence bill, and [...]
The GOP is also set to take up a series of bills to attempt to increase domestic production of oil -- a bill which attempts to remove “the tangle of red tape for permits in Alaska” is expected in June and another to move forward with construction on the Keystone pipeline is set for July.
No wonder those Oil Companies, need those Billion Dollar subsidies -- they got to keep paying for all that "Rep Tape" cutting.
You see, Eric Cantor does have a Plan -- and it doesn't include us ...
and the GOP's "Slash and Burn" priorities -- don't include Joplin Missouri either ...
Blunt Calls for More Joplin Aid
Dan Warner, stlouis.cbslocal.com -- June 22, 2011
Sen. Roy Blunt wants to raise the percentage of federal aid provided in the wake of the Joplin tornado.
On NBC this morning, Blunt discussed how he petitioned the federal government to raise the funds provided for Joplin cleanup efforts. He said FEMA initially offered to pay 75% of the cleanup with the local government paying the rest, but it was then raised to 90%.
"I’d like to see them get it up to a hundred," Blunt said.
Blunt also defended House Majority Leader Eric Cantor’s comments on cutting other programs in order to pay for relief in Joplin. Cantor has been criticized by Democrats for his comments, but Blunt said Cantor is right.
The GOP has a Plan -- It's called Pay-fors ... it's called realigning National Priorities.
Tornado Victims can get all the Help they need as long as "some other" wasteful Government Program, like Tornado Monitoring and Prediction, are first cut to Pay-for the Humanitarian Relief.
... as long as that Relief isn't needed in one's own State-- then 100% Help is automatically expected, isn't that right Eric?
... as long as that Revenue Relief isn't imposing on one's own Constituency, like the Oil Lobby -- then a 100% Hands-off approach is automatically expected, isn't that right Eric?
Oh the Horrors! Imagine making the entrenched Oil Interests, actually give something back to the Country they have gouched so reliably, year-in, year-out. It's the Summer Driving season again -- Raise the price. There's another crisis in the Mid East -- Raise the price. There's a new Derivative betting scheme on Wall Street -- Raise the price.
But whatever you do -- Don't Make the Oil Corporations pay their Fair Share!
But whatever you do -- for God's sake, Don't Make the Tea Party gang ride Coach!
God No, Anything but that! Some Corporate Perks, are Sacred, doncha know? Important enough to make the Tea Party Leader, take his ball and go home.
That's some Plan, Cantor. Crash the Country. Crash the World. No worries, long as you have your Corporate Jet, (as cheaply as possible), right?
Would you like an extra Pillow, ... with your whine, sir?
