Michele Bachmann (R, Crazytown) has signed a pledge.
This pledge states the following (which you can read about in more detail at that link):
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A CHOICE
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS LIKE POLYGAMY, ADULTERY, POLYANDRY
– HOMOSEXUALITY IS A PUBLIC HEALTH RISK
– SEX IS BETTER AFTER MARRIAGE
– PORNOGRAPHY SHOULD BE BANNED
– REJECT SHARIA ISLAM
Presumably, Michele Bachmann doesn't want to ban irony.
If someone wants to ban pornography, make life as hard as possible for homosexuals, and stigmatize sex before marriage... exactly what is it about Sharia Law they don't like?
It's just the "Islam" thing, isn't it? If we took the tenets of Sharia Law and did a find-and-replace to substitute "Jesus" every time "Allah" appears, I bet Bachmann and her buddies would be all 'bout it. She'd be down with that like four flat tires, baby. That sounds like exactly what she and her superstitious pals have been working toward for decades. That's the goal line and when they get across it they wanna spike the Bible and do an end-zone dance!
(Well, 'cept for the Baptists, who don't approve of that dancing part.)
Really, I think these radicalized, theocratic Republicans are so terrified by Sharia Law because they know what kind of oppression they'd do if they got the chance. They know these radical Islamists are scary and evil... because they recognize themselves in them.
Bachmann and her cultists are dinosaurs and they don't even know they're in the tar pit that'll bury them. They're trying to play a game they already lost a long time ago.
Shoving gays back into the closet? Nope, ain't gonna happen. That generation is old and it's dying and it's not coming back. Social conservatives can waste their time slowing it down if they want to, but that's all they can do - they can't stop it. And they'll just make themselves hypocrites if they keep talking about "freedom" while they try. They can claim homosexuality just a "choice" so they'll feel more comfortable about being bigots, but they're just going to look silly in the face of tons of evidence to the contrary. But, as creationists, they'll probably be comfortable with that.
Stopping pre-marital sex? That hasn't worked since the beginning of the species, and it won't start now. Fight against biological urges only if you get some kind of buzz out of losing again and again and again.
And banning porn? Good luck getting elected when the red states are the biggest consumers of it!
Conservatives push for these things - demand their candidates sign a pledge about them - and then they still try to claim liberals are the ones wanting a "nanny state?"
Sorry, conservatives, but you're not important enough to suspend the advancement of the human race just so you can maintain a world in which you're never challenged by other ideas, and where you can always feel comfortable. Either accept the fact that the only place such a world has ever existed is in your fantasies, or wear yourself and everyone else out chasing ghosts. Adapt or fade.
