This is my first diary so go easy on me! I have been thinking a lot lately with this debt ceiling debate going on, that it shouldn't be a debate or an argument at all. Here we have Obama offering up Social Security and Medicare cuts in exchange for what? This is insane. A majority of the public doesn't want this, even the Republicans are against tinkering with SSI and Medicare. Obama doesn't seem to realize that he holds most of the cards in this 'debate', but he won't use them. All he would have to do is let the Republican overlords of Wall Street tell them, and they already have, that they have to raise the debt ceiling. Debate over. It would be pure political suicide for the Republican controlled House not to raise the debt ceiling. Obama should have never brought up SSI and Medicare in the first place. If SSI and Medicare are to be tampered with, let a Republican president do it.
I gave a lot of money to, and voted for Obama. I thought I voted for a leader. What we ended up with was a mediator. A mediator that will mediate and compromise his position away even if he doesn't have to. Which brings to my main point below the fold.
A primary against Obama isn't going to happen. So how about a write-in campaign during the general election for America's Senator Bernie Sanders? We the People could actually take back control of the presidential election by going right around the two major parties where corporate money rules, and get a real leader of progressive values in the White House. At the very least, it would give Obama pause, and maybe, just maybe push him left in his actions. I think the independents and even some Republicans would vote for Sanders. He has a no nonsense practical approach and is totally on the side of the People. Every Friday when listening to Thom Hartmann's program during the Brunch with Bernie segment, a caller will always ask if Bernie would run for president. He always is gracious in his response and declines, but what if we didn't give him a choice? What if we could setup a website where the People could go and pledge to write-in Sanders when they vote? Donations to the write-in campaign could be used exclusively for advertising to get People to pledge to write-in Sanders. What do you think? Am I dreamin'? Perhaps. But I'm sick of the Caver in Chief and I really don't think he'll change much at all if he were to get a second term.
