I have been one of Pres. Obama's strongest supporters here at daily Kos.
I will still, absolutely, positively vote for him. I may give him some money, too, especially if it looks remotely close (personally, I think the Repugs will nominate Bachmann and Obama will win easily).
But he's making it so hard.
He needs to raise taxes. MY taxes.
I make money. I'm a bunch of orders of magnitude away from Bill Gates or Warren Buffett, but by my own scale, I'm rich. Here's my scale: Add up the number of days in the last year that you have either a) Been hungry not by choice or b) Slept outdoors not by choice. If that's 0 you're rich. I'm rich, by that standard. And my taxes must go up.
From 1936 to 1980, the top marginal rate was never less than 70%. Sometimes it was 90%. And we had job growth. Now, it is 35%.
Obama is a great speaker. He should use that voice, not to convince Democrats that we have to take off our bandaids, but to convince all Americans that we NEED bandaids, and we need them left on.
Obama has said "If not now, when?"
Well, that's from a famous quote by a famous rabbi: Hillel. But the whole of that quote is this
If I am not for myself, who is for me?
If I am for myself alone, what am I?
If not now, when?
I am not for myself alone. If you are, what are you?
