So the GOP are doing what they do best, blocking stuff. In this case they are blocking the appointment of ANY head of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency until said agency is declawed and defanged so that their billionaire buddies can keep on ripping us off in the name of providing financial "services". While the executive branch is a little short on ammunition for most of their blocking tactics, this one is a fight the President can pick and win.
It's not a perfect solution (a perfect solution would involve indictments and the relegation of the GOPs failed policies to the dust heap of history, since they seem to wish to live not in the last century but the one that preceded it) but what do you suppose would happen if those legislators trumpeting this obstructionist line were to be approached and privately told "Listen buddy, the President has made a nomination. I'm here to tell you that if you dont get this guy confirmed before your next recess then you're gonna be so butthurt when somebody you'll like even less and who will absolutely GUT your paymasters on Wall Street is put in there as a recess appointment. Sure, if you still wont confirm that person, all you need to do is wait out your NEXT session to get rid of them, but if you go that route I guarantee you'll like the person that replaces them in THAT recess even less. So make a choice, dude.. this guy or an ever worsening sequence of recess appointments until you finally cave and let one be confirmed because you're so afraid of what the next one will be like. Trust me, the list of people that will make your backers squeal like the pigs they are is much longer than your endurance."
