I've stayed up late, reading the fascinating and horrifying 1500 page rationale for the mass murder of children in Norway. In my view, it demonstrates that intelligence and sanity don't always coincide.
Mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik (Andrew Berwick) was a Christian partisan, declaring himself one of the "Knights Templar Europe", who despised "political correctness" which he defined as "cultural marxism", blaming it for opening the door to Muslim immigration. He laments "the Godless religion of Marxism, with its evil twin spawns Liberalism and Multiculturalism."
His 1500 page justification for killing a hundred children is remarkable for its presentation of the broad sweep of history, psychology, religion, and technology, yet pathetic in its inability to appreciate its own absurdity, hypocrisy, and irony. For example, he imagines himself a knight worthy of praise, whose purpose is to "Protect the weak, defenceless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all."
It is also a horrific document.
His racism comes screaming through when he declares that he cannot state that "Whites are generally more intelligent and creative than blacks and have, throughout human history, solved the problems presented to the human race by Mother nature far more effectively than blacks have" without being vilified as a racist.
Even so, he asserts that the statement is "firmly grounded in fact."
When he describes how he was unable to get a silencer that he wanted for his weapon, he consoled himself that without a silencer he could in its place fit a bayonet, and therefore "'Marxist on a stick' will soon become an exclusive Knights Templar Europe trademark."
The "Marxists", of course, were to be the children of the Norwegian Labour Party.
Breivik declares, "Pursuing equality is to clash with Mother nature. Nature abhors a vacuum but she also abhors equality..."
The point he tries to make is that the "creation of Eurabia is the greatest act of treason in the history of Western civilisation for two thousand years, since the age of Brutus and Judas." He declares, "I was naïve, too, once, and thought there were positive aspects to the EU. There aren’t, or not nearly enough to keep any of it. The EU is all bath water, no baby." His immediate goal is launching a movement of "one million people [to] march on Brussels" in order to destroy the European Union.
An example of his analysis: "How shall we differentiate between hardcore Marxists, cultural Marxists, suicidal humanists/career cynicists and the capitalist globalists? The common factor here is that they all believe they are doing the right thing, so they all have good intentions, at least according to themselves. But this can also be said about Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot. They were all idealists in their own twisted way. Regardless of their twisted intentions they are all mass murderers and must be treated as such... No mercy will be shown... The punishment for high treason is the same whether you are a hardcore Marxist, cultural Marxist, suicidal humanist, career cynicist or a capitalist globalist."
He takes inspiration from right wing American propaganda such as Diana West of the Washington Times, to argue that "we should shift from a pro-democracy offensive to an anti-sharia defensive." Fox News, the Weekly Standard, the Washington Times and National Review are among sources he cites, as well as libertarian sources such as the Ludwig Von Mises Institute. But these are a few among many such references. He also uses anti-islamic websites as well as esoteric and mainstream publications as sources. He quotes at length from a number of authors to support his views.
Breivik excoriates the Quran, quoting Serbian writer Srđa Trifković to observe that the Islamic holy book quotes Allah to declare, "Kill the unbelievers wherever you find them. …But if they repent and accept Islam … then leave their way free." (Sura 9 Verse 5)
How does Breivik reconcile this criticism with the fact that the Christian Bible contains many such passages? For example:
"When the LORD your God brings you into the land where you are entering to possess it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and stronger than you, and when the LORD your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them." ( Deuteronomy 7:1,2)
Author Ruth Hurmence Green identified 73 similar passages of mass killings ordered by the God of the Christian Bible in her book, Born Again Skeptic's Guide to the Bible.
Breivik anticipated the question, having written:
"What about the violent passages in the Bible? First, violent Biblical passages are irrelevant to the question of whether Islam is violent. Second, the violent passages in the Bible certainly do [not] amount to a standing order to commit violence against the rest of the world. Unlike the Quran, the Bible is a huge collection of documents written by different people at different times in different contexts, which allows for much greater interpretative freedom. The Quran, on the other hand, comes exclusively from one source..."
Meanwhile, he advocates deportation of all Muslims from Europe, while advocating that Muslims seeking to assimilate must "Convert to Christianity (Orthodox, Catholic or Protestant). Every individual is to accept baptism, the ritual act by which one is admitted to membership of the Christian Church, as a member of the particular Church in which the baptism is administered." One wonders how this is different from, "if they repent and accept Islam … then leave their way free."
He adds, "No Arab/Asian/Islamic name is allowed."
If Islamists are the ultimate targets, then why kill so many Christians in whose name he imagines he is acting? Because these hundred or so murdered children were all traitors: "We will launch information campaigns and create awareness by using any means necessary, including distribution of our messages by using lethal shock attacks against concentrations of class A and B traitors in a pan-European context. The primary goal of the shock attacks is not the immediate physical manifestation of the attack (destroying a few buildings, killing a few hundred traitors) but rather the indirect effects. Shock attacks will have the potency to penetrate the strict censorship regime of the cultural Marxists/multiculturalists."
That a Christian may so easily excuse violent Biblical passages while using a violent passage from the Quran to justify mass murder of children is not simply horrific beyond belief, it is a hypocritical conceit and a sanctimonious absurdity.
In Norway, some publications have reported, the most severe penalty that a criminal may receive is twenty-one years in prison. I expect there will be an exception.
