This morning on NPR David Stockman was interviewed by Scott Simon on the current hostage situation. Stockman said this during the conversation:
The Democrats say Social Security isn't part of the problem. Well, this year Social Security will be fifty billion short, in terms of revenue coming in from payroll tax versus what's going out, and it will get worse every year, and it's the biggest single program.
To my dismay, Scott Simon let this go unchallenged. Stockman was part of the Reagan Administration when the Greenspan Commission raised our Social Security payments in order to establish the "Trust Fund" and cover the Baby Boom bubble. He KNOWS that the current short-fall was predicted and that, except for the migration of wealth, the system is operating the way it was designed. He KNOWS Social Security is solvent until 2037 or thereabouts and is not in crisis.
This is how it is done, this is how we are attacked. Untruths and misinformation are allowed to go unchallenged, and soon become part of the narrative. Please write to NPR (politely please -they are pretty much the good guys) and help turn this one around.
