The Daily Bucket is a place to catch your casual observations of the natural world and turn them into a valuable resource. Whether it's the first flowers of spring or that odd bug in your basement, don't be afraid to toss your thoughts into the bucket. Check here for a more complete description.
Every couple of weeks, I take a lovely drive down a back road that runs along the edge of the Great Swamp in Morris County, New Jersey. Every year, one of the things I look forward to is the blooming of the water lily pond. There were a few buds at 4th of July when I drove down to take day lily pictures, so I was not disappointed last week at the full display.
I suspect this pond of being at least partly unnatural; I think there's a dam somewhere. It's near the campus of a large corporation. However, it's so large and so ungroomed that I don't think it's a cultivated water garden. As far as I can tell, the flowers are Nymphaea odorata, although one can't get near enough to tell if they have a fragrance. I found a place to pull over, no doubt illegally, and trek back to the pond and snap a few pictures.
Your turn. Please tell us what you're seeing and roughly WHERE YOU ARE.
