As I've said consistently to my most liberal friends, anyone who thought President Obama was going to represent liberal values wasn't paying attention during the campaign. While considering myself a liberal myself, I've supported him as he has sought to compromise, seek middle ground and try to change the right/left dynamic.
I can no longer offer that support.
It is clear, that, to President Obama, compromise is not a means to an end - it is an end unto itself. It doesn't matter that he consistently caves to the Republicans - he is compromising, which makes it all OK.
Not to this Democrat.
People say there are no longer any moderate Republicans. Yes there is. His name is Obama...
I have just unsubscribed from Obama's re-election campaign emails, and asked to be sent no printed material. I have declared that I will not give a single penny, or spend a single minute in support of his re-election. Because I'm not interested in supporting a right-of-center, Democrat in name only.
There is a time for compromise. And there is a time to stand on principal. Unfortunately, President Obama does not have the strength of convictions, character or leadership to stare down the Republicans and be the leader the country needs.
It greatly pains me to write these words. And I remain open to reconsidering my position. But if the President can't take a stand, I will.
It is time for the President to be honest about his priorities. He talks a good game. But from his history of appointments and failure to stand behind the best and brightest candidates, his foreign policy and his clear allegence to the rich and powerful, he is not any Democrat that I recognize.
