I'm not sure that I would vote for them, but such a party would be a good one.
What is this party?
It's the Republican party that Nominated Richard Nixon for president, the first time in 1960.
I'd call it the "Northern Republican Party," because such a name would keep the crackers out.
If we ignore the cold war anachronisms, their 1960 party platform is a pretty good document, including support for collective bargaining, an increased minimum wage, support for extended UI benefits, robust consumer protection, better safety protections in the workplace, equal pay regardless of gender, the right to a good and free government education, support for civil rights and voting rights, etc.
This would still not be a party I would vote for, the document makes a number of glowing references to Taft-Hartley for example, but it is striking how far to the right of mainstream REPUBLICANS many of our Democratic party leaders would be.
