On Saturday, July 31st, the SOSMarch drew in folks from all over the country to express our concern and even demands that teachers as professionals be heard in the education debate about reform.
This event has now become a more tangible rally point for those of us who are active in our respective teacher unions; but, nevertheless are frustrated sometimes by how timid those organizations can be.
Sometimes there needs to be a visible and tangible place and time set for a grass roots uprising to coalesce and this was it...for now. Time will tell how much this has actually done for a movement of teachers who want to be heard as professionals and not as functionary pass-throughs for some sort of Orwellian lock-step "education" system.
I want to give my profoundest thanks to Ken Bernstein, Teacherken, who not only tirelessly hammers away at these issues on these pages; but, who worked tirelessly along with others to make this happen so smoothly. Thank you, Ken!
