Jessica King (D): 50
Randy Hopper (R-inc): 48
Republicans are undoubtedly going to be pushing our new Daily Kos poll showing Randy Hopper up by one point in a must-win district for Democrats. As such, it seems only fair to post the new Republican poll showing Jessica King up by two points.
It is extremely close in district 18, and I remain confident Jessica King will prevail. When she does, we will need to find only one more win in the remaining four campaigns. Fred Clark and Sandy Pasch are the best Democratic hopes for that third win.
There was never going to be a Democratic rout in the Wisconsin recalls, as people on the ground and campaign insiders always knew. One of the more seductive dreams for participants in populist movements is a sudden shift in mass consciousness that rapidly and decisively overthrows the existing order. However, the truth is that it just doesn't happen that way very often, and the odds of it happening were virtually nil in six state senate seats which Republicans managed to win during the Democratic wave of 2008.
This is not an attempt on my part to lay the groundwork to spin a moral victory, because I don't believe there are any moral victories to be had in the Wisconsin recalls. While we face a very difficult task, there has been a powerful populist uprising in Wisconsin that has put the virtually impossible within reach. In order to pull it off, we have no other option but to fight as hard as we can until the polls close tomorrow night.
