So I threatened you Tuesday I'd talk to you about Sports Live Blogging and how TDS/TCR prepared me for it.
Before I left DocuDharma to start The Stars Hollow Gazette I had already started Sports Live Blogging. Among the last events I covered there were the 33rd America's Cup and the Winter Olympics. On The Stars Hollow Gazette I've covered Le Tour and Formula One in addtion to March Madness.
What I like about them is the same thing I like about TDS/TCR. It's a discrete, well defined event with a time limit so it's easy to identify your subject matter and find sources for content as well as not tying you down for an undetermined amount of time (though most of them take well over 2 hours to write however trivial they seem).
As for tying you down, my style is the one I developed here. You provide a setup before the event and then in comments react to it and the reactions of others. After that you just have to clean up.
At the time I left DocuDharma I had already decided that these live blogs, despite the fact they generated a lot of page views and comment traffic and are some of the best and most carefully researched pieces I wrote, were disruptive of the look and feel of the site because they squeezed out member muse generated content. The Stars Hollow Gazette on the other hand is my personal playground.
All of which is a reminder that while I am "one of the best, most productive people on the site" whatever size the fish pond, I can also be kind of intimidating to people who don't think they can keep up.

It seems like a lot but my stuff is mostly all crap you can ignore, written on deadline without much thought. Contributors needn't suffer under the illusion that my poor efforts are anything but an amusement for me and a backdrop for their brilliance to shine against.
Now tomorrow I don't have to come up with a TDS/TCR because maggiejean has volunteered and Mber has also for a shift not on Tuesday. I'm kind of encouraging Wednesday since once again I'm not able to determine if the week of the 15th is original programming or not and before we take an enforced break I'd like to give the community a chance to weigh in as to whether we want to maintain continuity.
If you wish to volunteer and reap the wild enhancement hosting TDS/TCR gives your worldwide blogging reputation and the scads of precious dK mojo your adoring fans will shower on you, all you have to do is respond to the This is where you volunteer comment I've posted below the Vent Hole and put up something simple like this-
About the guests
Jon hosts Mark Adams. Number one you need a wiki entry. Number two, even Hiram Bingham admitted that local residents knew all about it and one farmer had inscribed a graffiti on a monolith as recently as 1836.
So "discovery" is a rather strong term, no matter how much you like Indiana Jones.
Stephen has Nassir Ghaemi. I'm so excited (depressed).
