Do you really want to save Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid? Tired of waiting for a "hero" to step up? Why not be a hero yourself?
The gang of 12 or whatever you want to call them are not going to submit their findings to a vote by the American people. They don't care about you, because you aren't in the Beltway.
But if you were in the Beltway, say 250,000 - 500,000 of you, marching to the National Mall on some day in early November, they might listen.
Most of those Tea Party "protests" involved at most a couple thousand, more likely a few hundred, people standing around in costumes with misspelled signs. The last "protest" I heard of involved less than 50 people and it was still covered by the national press.
Make it a weekday, so they can't say they were out of town. Jam the Metro, clog the highways, fill the streets around the Capitol, White House, and the Mall.
Get somebody to headline the event. How about Bernie Sanders? or Kos? Or Howard Dean? Or all of them and more.
AARP has a big stake in this. Anybody know of an ear you can bend there?
dKos has several hundred thousand subscribers. Any organizing type people around? Or are we all too busy with the latest pie fight? We seem to spend a lot of talking around here, how about talking about doing something?
Seriously, the people in DC will not listen to you if you are not right in their face.
And if 250,000 people get in their face....
It worked pretty well in the sixties and there wasn't any internet, facebook, or twitter then.
Not a flash mob, no costumes, just a whole bunch of people coming to see their congress in action.
I got time. I'll go. And I bet a lot of retired people would go, as well.
And if the folks who are not retired don't want to have to eat cat food after they retire, if they even get to retire, they probably ought to go as well.
