With the GOP/Tea Party loons throwing around the phrase "job creators" like mad, I got to thinking, just who are the real "job creators" in this country. Follow along to see my spin on this latest GOP catch-phrase.
The GOP loves to say "We won't raise taxes on job creators" or "We have to protect the interests of job creators" or "We cannot put onerous regulations on job creators", but when have they ever correctly identified who are those "job creators"?
They love to tell us that it is the small business owner, or Wall Street darlings, or other corporate entities like Exxon-Mobil. Afterall, we can't possibly end government subsidies to Exxon-Mobil because that will adversely effect a "job creator". The point they have truly missed, and one that we who are not Tea Partiers are not driving home strongly enough, is that the middle/working class are the true job creators.
A strong economy creates jobs, not GE, Exxon-Mobil, Wal-Mart, or Mom & Pop's Diner. Let me repeat that for emphasis, a strong economy creates jobs, not any company (directly).
A strong economy creates strong demand for goods and services. Strong demands create jobs to fill that demand, from service jobs to manufacturing jobs and everything in between.
Starting back in 2005, housing prices started to skyrocket due to the housing bubble. Due to the greedy short-sightedness of some financial companies, people who had no business getting a home loan to begin with, were being given credit they couldn't possibly pay back, unless the economy keep climbing. As 2005 rolled into 2006 and the economy began to slow, the bubble began to burst. As 2006 rolled into 2007, the bubble had completely burst and home mortgage defaults began to skyrocket faster than home prices did just 2 short years earlier. That led to the economic collapse of 2008 and the subsequent financial bailout.
Jump ahead to the present and the economy is still shrinking, unemployment is high and staying there and where are the jobs, Mr. Boehner? We haven't raised taxes on your supposed "job creators" and yet they are still not creating jobs! Why not?
Because there is a little understood principle among the GOP and Teabaggers that companies do not directly create jobs. As I said earlier, a strong economy creates strong demand for goods and services and strong demand translates directly into more jobs. Therefore, companies do not create jobs as much as a strong middle/working class, that has a healthy discretionary income to spend on goods and services. Companies create goods and services; people that can spend money on those goods and services, create the demand for more jobs - not the other way around.
A company can make all the widgets it wants to but if there's nobody who has the money to spend on those widgets, how long will that company stay in business? When that business closes, who created any jobs, the business or the consumers it didn't have?
A strong, healthy middle/working class drives the economy far stronger than any company does. As the middle/working classes' buying power decreases, so does the economy and so do the jobs. The GOP/Teabaggers have seen to it to declare war on the middle/working classes and, by doing so, have created a climate where the economy will never recover until that war has been stopped.
These points need to be made every time you hear a politician or Teabagger ranting about "job creators". When they inevitably do, ask them what job is "company A" going to create when there isn't a consumer who can afford to buy their products? So, as the title says, Who Are The REAL "Job Creators"?
Say it often, say it loud, say it proud!
