The massive demonstrations in Israel this week could be an opening to a new political landscape in Israel. The oligarchs and their families who dominate the economy with the criminal organizations that profit from the corruption that typifies everyday life may find themselves in the same boat as the political families in Arab nations across the Middle East as the uprisings has swept the spring and summer. The wreckage of corruption across borders could produce a new alignment that would result in real democracy in and outside of Israel. The Israeli oligarchs have dominated the country's direction for more than 4 decades, their main tactic has been to distract attacks on their power (or moves to increase democracy or decrease economic inequality) by inciting or producing real or imagined political crises with Arab neighbors (http://www.dailykos.com/...). When that failed they assassinated leaders who were pressing a broad-based change in political direct as in Rabin's demise.
The Israeli population must be creative and yet must contend with powerful forces the oligarch's control. As in Egypt they will not fail to use goons and violence to disperse the energy and direction of change. The political and religious right will not shrink from the most crude tactics to protect their privileges and power and the demonstrators must form a united front as in Libya to iron out the road to change and democracy. How to do this will depend on the ability of the demonstrators to use media to get their message out, though the communications are controlled by the oligarchs they cannot depend on this avenue but must work community by community to clearly define the nature of the problems they face. Beyond using social media they must use every other means, mass meetings, community meetings, broadsides and newsletters to educate and create a future of freedom and liberty from fear. The future has been hijacked by the fanatics and youth and thinking Israelis must pave a way through this barrier of lies and fear (http://www.dailykos.com/...). Lifting this cloud of confusion will not be easy.
