The Republicans thought they were gathering for the Ames straw poll yesterday. In truth, they were part of the unwitting script for a new horror film, Children of the Corndogs. To the links, then.
- By far the best photo to come out of the Ames event. Chow down!
- Just remember: secessionist Rick Perry "balanced" the Texas budget using federal stimulus money. So much for that Texas economic miracle.
- No, seriously, I feel like using this thread to hammer Rick Perry some more, so why don't you all read up on Rick Perry's overt theocracy?
But Perry’s tendency to use prayer as public policy demonstrates, in the midst of a truly painful, wide-ranging and potentially catastrophic crisis in the nation’s second most-populous state, how he would govern if he became president.
“I think it’s time for us to just hand it over to God, and say, ‘God: You’re going to have to fix this,’” he said in a speech in May, explaining how some of the nation’s most serious problems could be solved...
Seriously, if we're going to just leave all our problems for God to take care of, why do we need to elect a President at all?
- This Perry-bashing thing is betting kind of fun. Let's do some more:
I think the first step in finding the solutions is admitting we have a problem—and admitting that Social Security is a Ponzi scheme.
This could go on all day, but the Texas Democratic Party already has a nice site full of oppo.
- Hearts go out to the victims of a tragic accident at the Indiana state fair that left four dead:

In a press briefing at 12:25 a.m., Indiana State Police confirmed four deaths and said the wounded were taken to Methodist and Wishard hospitals. Another update was scheduled to occur in about 90 minutes.
The fans at the Indiana State Fairgrounds' Hoosier Lottery Grandstand were being evacuated Saturday night to the nearby Pepsi Coliseum when a wind gust brought down the stage rigging for the country music concert.
- I agree with DougJ:
Expect the fighting between the teahadists and the old-schoolers to get louder. Personally, I see the old-schoolers surrendering, which is why I think Perry is a more likely nominee than Romney.
