Meet-Up - Wednesday Night - The Shanty
Yes, it's finally here, the one we've all been waiting for, the Big Meet-Up. A huge crowd is expected with Baja Kossacks flying in to Tucson from as far away as, uhhhh, wherever Spedwybabs lives. The venue will be The Shanty on the corner of 9th St. and N.4th Ave. This longtime Tucson establishment is something of a hangout for local Dems. Drinking Liberally meets there on Sunday nights and Gabby Giffords was known to stop in for a cold one now and then. There's a nice patio and for those who enjoy pool, The Shanty keeps their tables and cues in excellent repair, better than some pool halls. I plan to get there around 6. Any Baja Kossacks who live between my house and the bar are welcome to ride with us. A splendid time is guaranteed for all, be there or be talked about.

Redistricting
The first trial maps from the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission are out. You can take a look at them at Blog For Arizona HERE. I would like to see some more detailed versions, those are supposed to be out soon. The Repubs are up in arms because the Independent Redistricting Commission is, well, independent. Rep. Terry Proud (R-ALEC) had THIS to say in this morning's Star.
Bar-B-Q News
Good news for northside carnivores, Mr. K's will open a new location. The new place will be at Stone and River, in what had been a Chili's. It always does my heart good to see a chain store close and a local outfit take its place. If you've been to the original Mr. K's on South Park you know that the Kendrick family knows what they're doing when it comes to Bar-B-Q. The family calls it Tucson Bar-B-Q, presumably because they smoke it over mesquite. That original location, which has been run by Mr. K Jr. for about 10 years, will also be moving. They'll open in what used to be of Snuffy's Bar and Grill, still on Park but farther south by the airport. Mr. K the Elder also plans to open a place in Sierra Vista.
Penal Pinal County News
Also in the Star, Josh Brodesky has a very good piece, Private-prison expansion a crime. I agree wholeheartedly. Not so the citizens of Eloy, many of whom support Correction Corporation of America's planned expansion in that town. I often wonder which are more numerous in Penal County, inmates or free citizens. Brodesky mentions Jan's buddy Chuck Coughlin's association with CCA, but manages to get through the whole article without a mention of ALEC. Maybe Josh should start reading DKos.
Speaking of ALEC ...
As ALEC watchers know, ALEC is coming to Phoenix at the end of November for their States and Nation Policy Summit. There will be a protest and I plan to be there. I'm not much for singing songs and carrying signs but I don't mind showing up to add one more body to the protest. Kossacks from our Exposing ALEC group are already planning to go to Phoenix and I hope there will be some kind of local effort. I want to meet-up with Phoenix Kossacks while I'm up there, even if they don't participate in the event. Whadya' say Phoenix, anybody interested ?
Finally ...
If there's anyone who hasn't yet seen the Michele Bachmann Corndog-at-the-State-Fair picture, it's HERE.
