I'm afraid I've got nothing profound to say tonight (seriously, when do I ever?); I had started a reflection on the peacefulness of evening prayer, when the kitten decided to go to sleep on the keyboard, blocking the screen so I couldn't see what I was typing. Okay, I scrolled the page so I could see over his little body; then his mother decided she needed to lick his ears or something. He didn't want his ears licked, so the two of them started fighting. On the laptop. And poof! Everything I'd written suddenly went away--and I'm not in the mood to recreate it.
Welcome to Brothers and Sisters, the weekly meet-up for prayer* and community at Daily Kos. We put an asterisk on pray* to acknowledge that not everyone uses conventional religious language, but may want to share joys and concerns, or simply take solace in a meditative atmosphere. Anyone who comes in the spirit of mutual respect, warmth and healing, is welcome.
What I love about evening or night prayer is that sense of letting all the tensions and trials of the day slide away (You cats stop fighting on the keyboard!! NOW!!), and turning everything over to God, whoever God is for you. (I SAID STOP IT NOW, CATS!!!) Evening prayer almost forces peace upon you, forces you to slow down, forces you to realize just how little control you have over the events of the day.
So if you long tonight, as I do, for some quiet and calm, shut the pets in another room, join me as we come before God and release the angst of the day,
Briefly reflect on your day; if you have offended God or harmed (in any way) another person, ask God for forgiveness--and let it go. Give thanks to God for all the good things that have happened today.
Call to mind anyone in your life who needs your prayers and God's help. (That should cover all of us.)
May you all have a calm and peaceful night, free from dogs who want to go outside at 2 am and cats who want to eat at 4 am.
Namaste.
