This guy is too nuts for Karl Rove
Secessionist Rick Perry is wasting no time trying to prove that he's the meanest, craziest whackadoodle in the Republican presidential race:
Gov. Rick Perry of Texas extended his sharp criticism of President Obama’s economic policies to the Federal Reserve, declaring: “Printing more money to play politics at this particular time in American history is almost treacherous — or treasonous in my opinion.”
Let's just take a beat to marvel at that claim. Printing money is treasonous? Really? Has Gov. Law and Order never heard of the century-old Federal Reserve Act that gives the Fed the authority to, you know, print money?
But that's not all:
Mr. Perry, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination, did not mention Federal Reserve chairman Ben S. Bernanke by name during a political stop here, but he made clear that he was referring to Mr. Bernanke as he responded to a voter’s question about the Federal Reserve.
“I know there’s a lot of talk and what have you about if this guy prints more money between now and the election,” Mr. Perry told an audience Monday evening. “I don’t know what y’all would do to him in Iowa, but we would treat him pretty ugly down in Texas.”
Now, just what the heck is that supposed to mean? How exactly would Perry "treat him pretty ugly"? Does that mean insulting his mother? TPing his house? Burning a cross on his yard? What constitutes "pretty ugly down in Texas"? And just for doing something—which Bernanke hasn't actually done or said he will do—that is fully within the scope and purpose of the Fed?
Well, Perry is new at this whole running-for-president thing. Maybe he just misspoke. Or not:
The Governor was expressing his frustration with the current economic situation and the out of control spending that persists in Washington. Most Americans would agree that spending more money is not the answer to the economic issues facing the country.
Ohhhhh. Interesting way of expressing his frustration. Hell, even Karl freakin' Rove thinks that's out of line:
"You don't accuse the chairman of the federal reserve of being a traitor to his country. Of being guilty of treason," Karl Rove told Fox News Tuesday. "And, suggesting that we treat him pretty ugly in Texas. You know, that is not, again a presidential statement."
You know, when Karl Rove is clutching his pearls at a fellow Texas conservative's extremism, maybe you really are out of line. Or maybe you're exactly what this totally insane Republican Party is looking for.
