Rick Perry said recently that, as President, he would make government as "inconsequential" in our lives as possible.
Tell that to my daughter-in-law, Governor Good-Hair:
My daughter-in-law was raised in poverty. Her mother was unable to work due to various injuries and alcoholism. Her stepfather beat mom repeatedly. She witnessed all of this.
However, despite these disadvantages, a consequential government proved that it could help lift her from poverty:
Thanks to public schools, she was able to have a good education.
Thanks to Medicaid, she was afforded regular Doctor visits.
Thanks to food stamps, she was able to eat dinner at home.
Thanks to heating assistance, the winters were bearable.
Thanks to Planned Parenthood, she was able to obtain birth control, and avoid an unwanted pregnancy in high school.
And, thanks to Pell Grants, this young woman was able to go to college and obtain a two year laboratory technician degree.
She's a strong, wonderful young woman with a new baby girl, a full time job with a decent wage, healthcare, a husband that adores her, and a life she wanted for herself.
And why?
A consequential, effective government.
As our President said in Iowa, police are government, firefighters and teachers and nurses are government.
A consequential government provides opportunity, safety, and promotes general welfare. It fights corporate corruption and greed and works on behalf of the public whom it serves.
A consequential government can assist in lifting generations out of poverty.
A consequential government can provide aid to disaster areas or war-torn nations.
A consequential government can dig a weak economy out of a ditch.
If you are a candidate and do not believe these things, that government can help and be of positive consequence in people's lives, then shut up. Just shut the fuck up and head on back to whatever podunk town you came from. There's no room in government for those that would rather government not exist.
