It seems obvious that the USA is in need of some major structural re-adjustments, none of which are being addressed by the (or should I say "our") Democratic Party as presently constituted. For whatever reasons, the "better Democrats" that DailyKos envisions have failed to appear, as yet.
Presumably Obama himself was perceived to be one of these better Democrats. However Obama's record to date has been anything but progressive -- as documented by his record of appointments and dismissals:

This is not the direction we want to be going. I'd even go so far as to say that the Democratic Party itself is so enmeshed with corporate influence and corruption, it's time we started looking elsewhere for leadership.
The nation is now on a fast road to disaster. The Democratic Party is clearing the way towards it. We don't need more of the same thing in a slightly ameliorated way, we need a major, structural shake-up of the powers-that-be.
There are two power-structures that presently control all US politics, both Democratic and Republican Parties: The financial establishment (Wall Street) and the Military/Industrial Complex. They are not one and the same, but they work in tandem. Between the two of them, they rule the roost and they call the shots - no one is elected to be President without the tacit approval of both.
Much as I admire DKos ambition to reform the Democratic Party from within, I think it's a losing battle. The monetary and media forces arrayed against us, both within and outside the formal party structure, are too powerful for any amount of leftist outrage to overcome.
I see DKos as far more than simply an arm of the Democratic Party, regardless of its stated goals. I see it as a vibrant community of enlightened human beings, bound together by a passionate sense of humanism and mutual respect.
Strategically (not ideologically) I advocate for an alliance with the libertarian Right, namely Ron Paul. He is the only candidate to correctly target Wall Street and the MIC as the primary movers in the takeover of our nation.. No Democrat has yet the courage to do that. But when push comes to shove, that's what needs to be done.
Social issues are to my mind secondary. Abortion, GLBT rights, prayer in the schools, etc. are by and large red herrings, tossed around by both parties to get votes, while the real power brokers do what they do best -- consolidate power.
This is only my opinion, mind you.
