The current Texas Governor used that word but inaptly. Make no mistake about it, there are groups out there with a single minded objective to destroy the government of the United States of America and make it unable to provide the basic functions that make us safe, our air and water clean and our politics honest. Is it the Weathermen? Nope. The Black Panthers? Nope. Disguised as "conservatives" these groups have engaged in the most open and notorious campaign of destruction that has been visited on our Nation since the Civil War. They design representative districts so that their politicians can choose their voters instead of the other way around. Supported by their own television network they have made lying an artform that would make Orwell blush.
Because we fail to call it like it is --- treating their campaign as just another political view worthy of respect -- one of these groups has even been able to obtain signed contracts with a majority of the United States House of Representatives to never fix the crooked tax system that rewards their friends and to impose revenue restrictions that will doom our Nation to failure. Contracts leaving the President of the United States to negotiate with the puppets but not the puppeteer.
To accomplish their mission of destruction of our national government, these people have enlisted the support of multinational corporations who share their absence of loyalty to our country, having loyalty only to the wealth they can assemble by milking our people until there is nothing left to take.
If you believed in this country and its future you would see today as a great opportunity. We can borrow for 20 years at historically low interest rates to fund massive investments in our cities and towns. We can build at lower cost because millions are unemployed and there has been so little demand for concrete and steel. If we did that, in 20 years the debt would be repaid and we could saddle our grandchildren with assets.
If you believed in this country you would want to pay to make it strong, particularly if you were the beneficiary of its historic greatness. You would not leave it to the young and poor to fight your battles to preserve your corporate objectives, disguised as "strategic interests."
But, if you don't believe in this country, you will fight against investing a dime in its future. You will squander the useful lives of millions of Americans who want as much the emotional value of a job as the income it produces. You will take as much as you can before it goes away.
If you believe in this country you would never let those lives and their productivity go to waste.
And, by the way, you would understand that it does not help to give money to rich people to build things if there is no one with the money to buy them. Supply side economics is a fraud.
