So, I'm about halfway through reading Blind Allegiance to Sarah Palin, by Frank Bailey - which, so far, I wholeheartedly recommend. I also recently read Game Change. Both books paint a fairly scathing picture of Caribou Barbie, but this one, by former Palin insider Bailey, is actually kind of heartbreaking. I disagree with everything the man stood - and, by his own admission, still stands for, but seeing the disillusionment grow page by page is painful on a human level. He was with her from her campaign through governor, through the '08 presidential race, up until she decided to quit to - um, ride around on a bus and make a butt-load of money, apparently.
But it's not my intention to hawk the book - I mean, I bought it at Half-Price Books, and it was still $13.
Both books did, however, bring up an interesting question - if John McCain had vetted Palin, and chosen someone else in 2008, would he have won the election? Or come closer to winning? If, for instance, he had chosen Mitt Romney, who was the closest to taking the GOP nomination instead of McCain, would it have made a difference? I realize it's old news, and probably discussed to death, but I just wonder what all of you think. It's my opinion that, while Obama still would have won, it would have been a much, much closer race.
