This is going to be a short Hurricane Irene Public Service Announcement
1) Stay off the roads.
2) If you absolutely MUST be on the roads in the flood or flash-flood warning zones for the hurricane, and you see water flowing over the road:
Turn Around, Don't Drown
With the intense rain we're getting, especially in Western MA, Eastern NY state, All of VT, and NH, and parts of Maine, roads WILL wash away.
You CANNOT tell if the road is actually present under the water until you get there, and find yourself swept away. Even if the road is there, the water may be deep enough to cause you to lose all traction and be swept away, anyway.
DO NOT drive through water flowing over a road.
TURN AROUND, DON'T DROWN.
If you need emergency help to get to a hospital, call 911. They will send appropriate vehicles (possibly from the National Guard) via a clear route to get you.
