I can't believe I even read it. Aw hell, yes I can! This is a post on The Political Carnival, about how Congressional representatives think they are struggling on their $174K a year salaries!!!!!!!!!
The article is linked here. It contains a link to the full article on Yahoo! News. Really, I already read about the Florida republican's remarks regarding his salary this weekend. The passage of 2 days hasn't lessened my disgust. More below the fold...
I mean, seriously, who do these people think they are talking to? I guess they are used to talking to millionaires and billionaires who would agree they are "underpaid"! Blech!!!
If I were a representative, and I were asked about my salary, I would certainly tell my constituents or the media that I was GRATEFUL for the salary I receive from THE TAXPAYERS for serving them.
After all, they weren't dragged kicking and screaming into this job - they VOLUNTEERED!!!!!!!!!! They actively sought the office they hold. And now some of them are complaining about their pay? When it's THREE TIMES the average (what used to be the) middle class salary??
I do see some potential bright spots in this:
First, the campaign ads write themselves. Please, Democratic challengers to these ungrateful republicans, use these recorded moments against them!
Second, Democratic challengers, state clearly that you are running to serve the people in your district!!! Make this a core plank of your campaign!
Third - damn, one of my kids asked me a question and I FORGOT what I was going to say! Oh well, I'm sure the commenters will make more points than I have!
I'm a wife and mom in my 40's and I've been self-studying for certifications in the field of medical billing and coding because I want to be able to bring in enough income so my husband doesn't have to work outside the home. He's got severe arthritis in most of his joints, and has had 14 surgeries since he was a kid. He's about to have the 15th one in the next month. We don't know how many years he has left of being able to get up and go to a job every day. I'm hoping to be able to get the degree in my field someday - right now I am not able to get into the classes I need to finish the coursework.
When I hear these representatives complaining about their salaries, I think of how lucky they are that one partner in the family makes (more than) enough to support a family. I would love to give my husband a rest for his old bones (heh heh - pun intended!).
These reps don't have any idea of what their constituents are suffering through. The are not serving anyone except their corporate masters.
They deserve to be voted out, and I hope their constituents do just that!
Night all; peace!
