I want moderation on this farce of a website. I thought this was a forum for getting more and better Democrats elected. Instead, it is little more than a pie-flinging, name-calling, soul-crushing, sophomoric bitchfest. Now that we need moderation, a liberal would recognize the importance of good and effective governance and step up. Instead, DailyKos will provide no such option. Like some sort of tea party, I was welcomed in freely but am subjected to insane ranting toward no useful purpose. I do not want to simply leave and let the middle school cliques win. I am disgusted by what is happening. Kos has no interest in moderating the site, and that is unacceptable.
If you run a website, you need to follow these steps. if you don't, you're making the web, and the world, a worse place. And it's your fault. Put another way, take some goddamn responsibility for what you unleash on the world.
You all suck. A lot of you wouldn't know what moderation was if it bit you in the ass. To you, namecalling and pie-fighting is the way to elect more and better Democrats. A tremendous amount of you are trusted users because you game the system and rec each other, while kos laughs at the mayhem. Frat parties and locker rooms parties are full of name calling haze fests they've enjoyed from the get go, with little regard to the impact the bullying has on the rest of the world. The amount of demogoguery and bullying that goes on at dailykos redounds poorly on us all. DailyKos exemplifies libertarian blog behavior like Somalia exemplifies political libertarianism, and I regret any and all association I have had with it. Regardless of my personal experience here, EVERYBODY WHO SIGNED UP TO THIS WEBSITE SHOULD BE SUBJECT TO REASONABLE REGULATION THROUGH COMMUNITY MODERATION . For Kos to deny us this is downright fascist.
You should make a budget that supports having a good community, or you should find another line of work. Every single person who's going to object to these ideas is going to talk about how they can't afford to hire a community manager, or how it's so expensive to develop good tools for managing comments. Okay, then save money by turning off your web server. Or enjoy your city where you presumably don't want to pay for police because they're so expensive.
Since I can't moderation this place myself, my only recourse is to be as abrasive and disruptive as I can be UNTIL I RUN EVERYONE ELSE OFF. As long as my account remains here, I do not feel comfortable leaving. Is it really such a tough request to moderate the place so we can participate in relative peace? Just what kind of website lets you join up but then allows so many personal attacks? One that regards people as little more than statistics, that's what. How like the Democratic Party for Kos to view his site's members as little more than statistics.
How many times have you seen a website say "We're not responsible for the content of our comments."? I know that when you webmasters put that up on your sites, you're trying to address your legal obligation. Well, let me tell you about your moral obligation: Hell yes, you are responsible. You absolutely are. When people are saying ruinously cruel things about each other, and you're the person who made it possible, it's 100% your fault. If you aren't willing to be a grown-up about that, then that's okay, but you're not ready to have a web business. Businesses that run cruise ships have to buy life preservers. Companies that sell alcohol have to keep it away from kids. And people who make communities on the web have to moderate them.
MODERATE YOUR FUCKING BLOG, KOS. You don't want me acting like an asshole, and neither do I.
