President Obama deserves a primary challenge but the question is who? Yesterday I floated Matt Damon but that did not seem to go over to well. The pro Obama crowd was especially adamant that Matt was not a good choice. I was called delusional, deranged an idiot, one person said I was only slightly more evolved than bacteria. The biggest issue with Matt Damon was lack of political experience so for today's "we need to primary President Obama diary" I decide to go with someone that holds office, that person is Al Franken.
Al Franken has progressive ideas and is of strong enough character to stand up for those ideas. For those who hammered me yesterday because political experience is in their minds a necessity he is a US Senator. He has strong convictions regarding what is wrong with this country and what needs to be done to get the country heading in the right direction. You can see where he stands on issue on his website here http://www.alfranken.com/.
He is articulate and intelligent and most of all he is liberal and not afraid to stand up for his convictions.
"There's no liberal echo chamber in this country. There's a right-wing echo chamber. I want to create a countervailing echo chamber."
- Al Franken, Chicago Tribune interview, on The O'Franken Factor
.
The problem with coming up with an insider challenger is many would not go against the Democratic machine to do the right thing and challenge our sitting President. Some of this is because we cannot even talk about as a potential, as evidenced here on Kos, a site that is in theory dedicated to electing better Democrats. Perhaps if the idea can begin to be taken seriously then someone will rise to that challenge. Al Franken is not afraid of a fight...
I do personal attacks only on people who specialize in personal attacks.
Al Franken
unlike others in our party. Al has strong convictions so maybe he could be up to challenging our President who has forgotten the Democratic principles of the party he is supposed to be a part of.
Is Al electable, well maybe...
“I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and dog-one it, people like me.”
Ok go ahead and destroy me again. I will continue to float ideas for a primary challenger because I want a better Democrat to be the Democratic nominee for President in 2012.
