It's a Black Thang. You wouldn't understand.

That's from a diary by Robinswing

and I don't understand. And I don't have to.  I grew up in the Lilly white suburbs of Chicago. I never met or shook the hand of a black man until my first apprentice class down at my union hall at age 18.

The only thing I knew about blacks was that the had run my folks (and almost all our neighbors) out of the Southside of Chicago and taken over the area.  It wasn't until much later that I learned that it was the white real estate agents and their companies that were behind the systemic 100% turnover of all area homes.

Things aren't always what they appear to be. My bride and her 7 book club gals not only loved the book "The Help", but went to see the movie. . . They all praised it. I was pretty surprised when it was reviewed on Lawrence O'Donnell's show by Prof Melissa Harris - Perry who just ripped it apart. . . My wife is one of the most color blind, non racial person I know, but she and her book club didn't get it. . . Nor probably would I.

Thankfully time has taught me that it doesn't have to be who feels or even understands the wrong that has been committed. It's just that someone has been wronged and it makes sense to them.

There is a lot of crap that goes on here that is too petty to discuss or call out. . . to me at least. . . Maybe I need to take a better look. Break out the binoculars and the microscope. . . Maybe we all do

If you are white are you going to boycott?

More Tagging tips:

A tag is a way to search for this diary. If someone is searching for "Barack Obama," is this a diary they'd be trying to find?

Use a person's full name, without any title. Senator Obama may become President Obama, and Michelle Obama might run for office.

If your diary covers an election or elected official, use election tags, which are generally the state abbreviation followed by the office. CA-01 is the first district House seat. CA-Sen covers both senate races. NY-GOV covers the New York governor's race.

Tags do not compound: that is, "education reform" is a completely different tag from "education". A tag like "reform" alone is probably not meaningful.

Consider if one or more of these tags fits your diary: Civil Rights, Community, Congress, Culture, Economy, Education, Elections, Energy, Environment, Health Care, International, Labor, Law, Media, Meta, National Security, Science, Transportation, or White House. If your diary is specific to a state, consider adding the state (California, Texas, etc). Keep in mind, though, that there are many wonderful and important diaries that don't fit in any of these tags. Don't worry if yours doesn't.

I think the Crips and Bloods all got what they deserved. I am instead looking forward to being able to discuss politics on this political website again without being slammed as a racist because I don't think Obama needs to be treated any different than any other politician - if he does things I strongly disagree with, I'll say so. Just as I've always done with every politician I've strongly disagreed with since LBJ.

The gang wars had made it impossible to even go into half or more of the topical rec list diaries, so I've stayed away from them. It will be nice to be able to participate and contribute again to the political side of this website.
